I cannot import m3u playlists

When I try to import a m3u playlist into iTunes using File/Library/Import Playlist, the playlist is imported but his empty. It seems to be related to the update to 10.4. Does anybody know if there's an issue with this? Is Apple working on a fix?

I've developed an alternative workaround to the problem with Winamp playlists for the script-averse:

  • Install Notepad++
  • Drag & drop or otherwise open the playlist with Notepad++
  • Select Search... Replace... choose the extended search option and replace\n\ with \n<Media Drive Letter>:\ e.g. \nC:\ if your media is on C:
  • Use the menu option Encoding > Convert to UTF-8 without BOM
  • Save
  • Import the playlist into iTunes

Importing Playlists from Winamp (mp3): The key is m3u8. Below is what worked for me.

From Winamp:

Export Playlist to a folder, when asked to rename it, do so and SAVE AS m3u8 (on the arrow options just below where you named the playlist)

Into iTune Software:

Music (top left column); Library, Import Playlist, Browse to the folder you made above to hold playlists; Click and there it is (on the iTune Software)

Into iPod:

From the left column drag the playlist upto your iPod. Presto, all is happy.

I did over 30 playlist in an hour.

I'm running itunes 10.6.1.7. Has anyone else come up with a fix for this for the kind of user that has not idea how to "run a script?" I tried importing the playlists from all three formats in which winamp lets one save them. none have worked. the playlist name comes over to itunes but none of the tracks within the playlist.

check this site out listfix.sourceforge.net and download list fix. What listfix does is it fixes broken M3U files and pairs the music files to the playlist wherever they are located. In the new itunes you can simply drag and drop your m3u file into the library. The music that is related to your playlist has to be in the itunes library in order for this to be successful. I just finished moving one of my playlist to itunes after using my listfix and it worked like a charm! Good Luck!!!
