Network keeps disconnecting when mac goes to sleep

Ever since I have installed OS X Lion on last Thursday anytime my Mac's (iMac and Macbook Pro) go to sleep I have to manually connect my wireless settings back to my private network. I never had to do this with Snow Leopard. I 1st noticed it when I kept getting an error messages from time machine. When I looked at my wireless icon it was grayed out. When I check it no networks had a check beside them. I ran the set up again but it still keeps happening. It doesn't take long to connect to my network, but since I'm not accustomed to having to select my network each time I turn my cpu on or wake it from sleep I figured it must be something in Lion causing the issue. Any suggestions?

I'm having EXACTLY the same issue! It's become very annoying.

I didn't have any problems while the auto-backups were off. The test was only for a couple of days though. I had some issues with my backup drive and ended up doing a complete backup over the past week. This has meant that the laptop has been left open the entire time with the backup chugging along.

I didn't have any problems with the wifi during this period either. I'm guessing that's because the connection has been busy the whole time doing the backup.

The opening and closing of the laptop turn the wifi on and off and that's when I seem to run into issues. Just keeping the laptop open, over the past week, I haven't had any issues at all with the Internet.

I am having some issues connecting to the backup drive if I stop a backup for any reason though. That's a different yet related issue. The only way I can get the laptop to reconnect to the airport for backup is to power cycle the airport. This happened a couple of times when I had to stop it to get other things done.

I think the long and the short of it is...we need another update for Lion to get the wifi kinks worked out.

The wifi connection could be dropped whenever you put your mac to sleep, and an application that does not have the "Save as..." mechanism running. It seems the "Duplicate" feature, new to lion, is unstable, and causes ethernet packets to turn over in their graves, triggering time machine to no longer function on network addressable storage units and generally causing chaos throughout the network. Even my toaster is not toasting evenly on the left side, I suspect since upgrading to lion.

Hopefully, apple is coming out with a 10.7.2 update, to remove the problematic "Duplicate" and it's cousin "Versions", so that reliable wireless returns to the mac.

Interesting... I noticed an additional curiosity with Time Machine of which I thought it had nothing to do with the Wi-Fi connection problems, but since it now seems that a corelation between the two exists, I'd like to share it with you anyway:

Ever since I upgraded to Lion, Time Machine has been backing up vast amounts of data (about 16 GB every run), though I don't create or modify any large files. One would expect that with 16 GB per run, my Time Capsule HDD would run out of free space in no time, however this is not the case -- the backup file stays about the same size after every run, without backup thinning applied to it (backupd log says 'no backup thinning required'). Hence, the 16 GB data transfer my poor Wi-Fi network has to cope with every backup run is unnecessary, in my point of view.

I suspect this also has to do with the new versioning feature -- anybody has the same experience?

Geez, just when I thought I had found a possible work around(leaving my laptop open all the time) it seems as though that isn’tenough. The Internet through bothSafari and Firefox stopped working. My auto-backup is running but not actually progressing. I launched a Terminal window to see ifI could ping yahoo as a test and that didn’t work.

The wifi connection thinks it is connected but it sure isn’tdoing any good.

I tried to quit the open programs, Safari, Firefox (which, since Lion if you crash out of it you don’t get the profile manager the nexttime you open Firefox), Word, and iTunes. The computer then locked up…refusing to exit all of the programs. I tried getting a Terminal window up soI could manually kill some PIDs but no go.

Had to manually turn the computer off (something I’ve had todo several times now with Lion due to lock ups. I have walked away for an hour on some occasions to makesure I’m not trying to rush anything but sometimes you have to just turn thedang thing off. Makes me feel likeI have a pc running Windows or something.

Once the laptop came back on, I am back in action. I can use browsers for the Net and Ican see my backup disks. Anyhow, figured I’d let you know that leaving my laptop open isn’t the cure either.

Hi All

Well.....where do I start. Having spent £25 upgrading to Lion so as to move my £70 / year mobileme account over to iCloud its become nothing short of a joke. My iMac was struggling occasionally when waking up to rejoin the WiFi network offered by my BT hub, but since Lion its every 10 minutes if your lucky. I have been through countless third party web forums, repaired, deleted keychains, changed priorities, as for time machine.......it took me a week to get the IMac to see my iomega backup drive again.............as for your local Apple store Genius bar......I must have gone through every bloke in the shop.......they seem to live in an Apple bubble......

I have sent countless network diagnostic reports to Apple with my email address to no avail. Network diagnostics does not do enough to cure the problem. Lion and the ICloud sync is the cause of all this.......how I am not sure.

I keep restarting my hub, when its clearly not at fault, this does solve the problem for a short time.....

I have manged to do something which lasted about a week.......before the problems came back again......

I am facing this issue since I bought my Mac book pro (OS X 10.7.3). I have tried all the possible options that I could do

- I've replaced my wireless router

- I've changed the service provider

-Tried to use it from different locations inside my flat. (all my flatmate's laptops are working perfectly fine)

The pending options are

-Ask all the neighbors to shut-down their routers to avoid the interference to use the ""MAC""

-Replace my Mac with a normal laptop (some times this would have been designed for next decade- should keep this for then)

I am not getting any word to express my feeling here since it led me to a situation that I don't feel to touch this metal box anymore. And I don't see Apple's response for any of these queries in this forum which made me think that they are expecting the user to findout a fix.
