Save a pdf to iPhoto option gone for good?

You used to be able to save a pdf file to iphoto when you would print a document and in the left hand corner where there is a pdf option box, you could save your document as a pdf into iphoto, making it a .jpg file automatically.

This feature is not available in OS X Lion anymore that I can tell.

DO NOT BUY OS X LION! It's a joke.

You can add this using Automator:

- Run automator, select File->New, chose Print Plugin

- From the PDFs part of the library drag "Render PDF Pages as Images" to the workflow on the right, set resolution to 200.

- From the Photos part of the library drag "Import Files into iPhoto" to the workflow section.

- Save the workflow

That should get you back this feature.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was very disappointed when I discovered that the save pdf to iphoto option was not included in Lion. I wondered if it might be possible to reinstate the option using automator, but had no idea how to do it. I have just followed your instructions and it has worked perfectly. Thanks again.

This totally saved my A(tail). I don't know what the Apple nerds are thinking when they dropped this sort of stuff. There are reasons why we use a Mac. Apple needs to remember where their roots are.

Lion so far is great, but I have a few more bugs to work out. I'm not big on the versions for iworks. I want my "save as" back. I'll figure it out.

Thank you so much! This works.

I just wasted an hour on the phone with apple "support" trying to firgure out a work around for this issue. I was told that they do not support Automator and for the first time was extremely disappointed with their willingness to help. I hope they are not going the way of the rest of the world and start not supporting their own products!!

Ahh - thanks very much, rbii. I was going to have to go to great expense to go out and purchase a dog, just so I could kick it when I saw that I couldn't save PDF's to iPhoto. Followed the Automator steps - worked perfectly. Somewhere, there's a very grateful pup tonight!

Like they said thanks rbii, I've never used Automator and never used the slideshow from a Book. Great

It would be nice to copy out the photos I've used to create the book into an album so one can use them for the full slideshow or into iMovie - I think one use to be able to do that pre-Lion.

But this was great to know - making slideshows can just absorb so much of your life !

Thanks JJ

YOur tip is worth gold to me...missing the feature in Lion. Have created and saved he workflow you recommended...but seem to be missing the next step. I am new to Automator...how can you utilize the newly created workflow? It does not show up in my Print Menu (in Preview for instance). How do you "call up" the workflow?

Thanks for a quick clarification.

I am still having some difficulties. I am running OSX Lion and iPhoto 11 - on a MBP. I can see the "Save PDF to iPhoto" option after running the automator. However, I can't find it anywhere in iPhoto. (it appears in my desktop) I also cannot find how to set the resolution to 200.

Thanks so much - I hope to find a solution!
