Q: My Mac don't go sleeping since Lion Update

Hallo Apple Fans,

 

well i have a Problem since i updated to Lion. Normally my Mac go sleeping after 30 Minuten. That doenst work anymore. Nothing happens, my Mac stay awake. Only the TFT goes in Standby - but my Mac is still running :-(

 

It always works with Snow Leo with no Problems.

 

I checked the Console, everything looks fine.  Also did a PRAM Reset.

 

Any guys out there, who has the same Problem under Lion? Any Solutions?

    Check your System Preferences - Energy settings. It may have reverted to default with the Lion upgrade.

    no Enery Seetings is still 30 Min - Monitor is going in Standby after 30 Min - but not the Mac.

    i have the same issue, since lion is in my mac it dosent go to sleep, energy settings are teh same as on previous version..... any clue???

    Will your machines sleep if you select "Sleep" from the Apple menu?

     

    If so, there's likely something running - third party or otherwise - that is preventing your system from going to sleep as your machine will only be put to sleep if it is idle, not just if you're not using it.

     

    Simple example - say you were rendering a long video project. If you walked away from your machine for 30 minutes your display would be put to sleep but your system would not be as it would be busy doing something else.

    if i select SLEEP from the apple menu still the same, monitor goes off and the rest still working, i can hear the HD spinning and the cooling fan.

    Use Activity Monitor to double check that something isn't running and using CPU cycles that you aren't expecting to be.

    idle%=98.50, i closed all apps, select SLEEP from apple menu and still only the screen turn off....

    Yes - but what else is shown to be actively running (other than Activity Monitor)?

     

    It's likely not an app but a startup item of some kind or third party kernel extension.

    I suspect this:

    Often this is some type of update checker often installed by an Adobe product or Netflix.

     

    Check for a folder in your /Applications directory called Akamai - if it exists, there should be an Uninstaller you can run located in that folder:

    i have uninstalled AKAMAI restarted mac, select sleep and still the same, only the screen goes off

    Kernel Task seems to be using an awful lot of CPU, which makes me wonder if you still don't have some third party kernel extension installed that's busy running in the background; for example VirtualBox is known to disable display sleep in Lion simply if you have it installed, regardless of whether you have a guest domain booted.

     

    If you could, run the following command in a Terminal window and post the results:

     

    kextstat | grep -v com.apple

    I also have a problem with sleep mode:

    On my iMac the sleep-command in the Apple menu is working,

    but it does not automatically sleep after the time that is set in the energy preferences.

    this worked great in Snow Leopard, but it stopped working in Lion.

    In the apple support-documents I read, that harddrive activity will prevent the mac from going to sleep. If I have a look in the activity monitor, I can see, that there is normally no access (read and write is 0kbit/s), but every couple of seconds, this value increases to 2-4 kbit/s (which is not much, but perhaps enough to prevent the imac from going to sleep?). Is there a way to figure out the process, that accesses the harddrive
