LameSecure and Lion

I have the same problem... anyone????

Everyone is talking to copy the folder to the desktop!

My problem is that I secured a the whole external hard drive with 2 GB and can not copy the one folder to the desktop. It's to big!

Any help how to unlock the folder of my external driver is welcome!!!!

The best solution is to copy your folder to an external hard drive. Then connect your drive to a friends computer running leopard with lamesecure installed. You will be able to open your secure folder with your password and transfer the files to another folder.

Lame secure simply keeps your files in a folder with a '.' at the begining, thus hiding it from normal navigation.

To see this folder bring up a Terminal window and type

"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true"

hit enter, then relaunch your 'finder' (from the force quite menu) or simply log out and then back in.

You will now be able to see all the hidden files and folders on your Mac (or any external HDD connected).

Then, just go the the folder you "Lame Secured", right click and select "Show Package Contents"

In the "Contents" file there should be a folder (slighty greyed out) called ".LameFiles" - all your files should be in there. Simply copy them to another location or view them where they are.

To hide all those hidden files and folders after you finished just open up a Terminal window and type

"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false"

and hit enter...

Hmmm..didn't work for me. But thansk for the post. The same dragged folder is still on my desktop with a ghostbusters cross-out through it. Why did I ever cough up $30 for the update to Lion that has offered me nothing but screwing up other apps?

I was having the same problem with LameSecure after installing Lion (really wish now that I hadn't bothered!) and this helped me recover my folders, so thank you! I even called Apple to see what could be done and the man told me to wipe out my MacBook completely, re-install Snow Leapord through my most recent Time Machine backup, get rid of LameSecure (as well as any other Power PC apps) and then re-install Lion.

This solution was much easier.

However, now I have files named ".DS_Store" all throughout the folder that I had locked with LameSecure and it's sub-folders. I also have one on my desktop. It can't be opened because I don't have the proper application to open it, and it can't be deleted because the application "icons.icns" is still in use. Anyway to get around this? Please help!

hi there - i had this same problem just yesterday and panicked . .. but then just dragged the folders in question onto a USB memory stick . . . took it round to a friend's house and used his computer to open them and then re-save the contents in new folders . .. deleted the original LameSecure folders and was home within 10 mins - all sorted.

I know that won't help everyone, but if you can do that, it does solve the problem very quickly and easily!

I've created an encrypted disk image now. Really easy to set-up using Disk Utility and you can password protect it! Not sure why i didn't do this in the first place really.

I followed the instructions, created a disc image, set a password and chose not to save to keychain but when I click on the icon I'm not prompted to give the password????

Am I doing something wrong???
