SD card not showing

Hi;

I have been successfully downloading pix from my camera by inserting the SD card into a slot in my monitor (Dell). Today, the SD card does not show up as a drive. I tried other SD cards to no avail. I then inserted the SD card back into the camera and connected with the supplied USB cable. Still nix.

What has happened?

Yeah, the old SDs are FAT16. I've been swapping the 4 cards on hand with the three cameras (different vintages) to see what works with what.

Now I guess the easiest fix is to get a new card reader that is compatible with SDs, SDHCs, and SDXC; and still work with Mac 10.4.11.

Shouldn't be a problem, or am I being naive?

Hi;

Here's an update. I can import the pix using iPhoto which I don't usually use since I prefer manually working with the files using the Finder, Adobe Bridge, Photoshop, etc.; iPhoto was just an extra step I didn't need.

All three cameras can show up in IPhoto. (Sometimes it doesn't but I haven't figured out what sequence/protocol doesn't work.) But the inetresting thing is that only the oldest camera (1) with an SD card (A or B) show ups in iPhoto and mounts in the Finder. The other cameras only show up in iPhoto with any card (A, B, C or D) but won't mount in the Finder.

BTW, my son's MacBook running 10.6.7 responds the same way.

Anyway, thank you for your help and patience.

Cheers;

When you cable up the camera, and iPhoto is already launched, it appears as a device on one of the panes (different versions are, well, different.) You can then manually select "import". Files are then downloaded into the iPhoto Library and thumbnails are created which appear on the main pane of iPhoto. What I then do is manually move the originals to where I want (usually a project or family folder) and delete the thumbnails and other data files and folders created by iPhoto.

On our family iMac, IPhoto automatically launches (if it isn't already) when a camera is connected. A prompt appears to import the pix and you're off to the races. My wife uses this all the time.

Cheers;
