Can I sort my applications in Launchpad?

Launchpad has chosen to sort my applications in some weird arbitrary order. Is there any way to tell it to sort them alphabetically?

Great, so I have five pages of legacy applications loaded up into Launchpad and I get to rearrange them all manually. Meanwhile, Apple makes it as hard as possible to find the apps by not allowing me to sort them, not allowing me to search them, and not allowing me to select them by typing. Good job.

I understand and support the goal of keeping things simple, but adding these basic capabilities to Launchpad would not have added any complexity for people who don't want to use them, and they would have made Launchpad much more friendly for many other people.

I like Launchpad, but I agree with you Apple should have thought things through better. I went to the feedbackpage of Apple and let them know it seems programmers have started with Launchpad but didn't finish it. In iOS/iTunes they introduced ways to sort programs in an easy way. This is not standard issue in OS X. In iOS you can drag your applications to the Dock. In OS X you can't. In iOS you can make alias-files in launchpad for reading portals, databases or magazines on the internet. In OS X you can't. Feels a bit like being back in the first version of iOS in stead of the newest version of OS X.

I hope Apple corrects this in the new updates very soon.

So I don't know if this is going to totally help you, but I wanted to clear up what someone said earlier, because I didn't get it at first.

If the question is 'can you resort?' the answer unfortunately is no. But, there is a way to move around the applications to set it up in any order that you wish. I didn't know about this till i realized you can jiggle and delete the apps.

Enter into Launchpad, and click and hold down an app. Thereafter, you can set up and move your apps in any order or way you wish, and then when you click out of the jiggliness, they'll stay like that until you change them again. its not perfect, but if you spend a few minutes getting it the way you want, you won't have to do that much work later on as you add apps.

hope this helps.

you can ceratinly search your launch pad by typing the first laters of any word in the name of the app you want. So if you happen to remember the name of the app you want, it is not a biggie that they are not sorted.....

And you can , if you can be bothered, sort the apps with a third part app like "launchapd manager".

But I do not umnderstand why apple will not just impliment a little "sort" button or something.....
