In fact I was searching a link to a video made years ago by an US team.

As they took too much time for my taste to take the movies, I showed them a slate on which I wrote « US GO HOME ».

I just retrieved the VHS dub. It was produced by SCRIPPS productions and is entitled : « The Best Of French Riviera » but it seems that there is no longer a link available on the net.

HI: new to this forum..

but I notice Yvan is on this one too. thought I would be able to run away from him.

Smart as he is and knowledgeable of Iwork apps..... he obviously no longer have to meet the requirements of auditors or monthly statements for clients where one mistake with versions can invalidate all of your data. I have work to do and do not have the time to play with duplicate, save, and trying to figure out which versions is which. Likewise I used preview all the time to play with images, now I can not do that as it saves versions as soon as I experiment.

Previously save as did it all.

when submitting feedback do it for each of the applications. pages, keynote, numbers, Macosx etc etc. call the support staff if you have a warrenty still valid, when in an apple store go to the guro,s tell them about your issue.. Use them to tell them what Apple have done to us with this Version and Save As implementation in Lion

Try.. Graphic Converter... does a lot of preview's work and it has an opt-in/opt-out feature for versions....

I had an old Apple II and used apple ever since...

Very disappointed with this change.

Obviously created and done by software folks who do not know how the user works and what he needs.

I used to be one of them and learned the hard way about making those kind of decisions before talking to the real user ( whose living depends on the work they do on the machine or deal directly with the customer)

Keep at them as I suggested in my previous listing

note Graphic Converter, NeoOffice, Pixelmator have created alternatives,

contact.. your other software vendors... tell them not to install versions unless they give you the alternative. or you will go elsewhere....

Agree 100%, unfortunately I drank the Lion koolaid and now I'm stuck because Mail can't be rolled back so I'm trying to live with it. As I look to "Mountain Lion" I'm not sure its in my best interest to pursue that either. It appears I'm between a rock and a hard place and just want to be efficient and productive, not burdened down with features, bells and whistles.

This is off-topic, but I also hated the new mobile-like Mail in Lion. You can switch to classic view by going to Mail preferences > Viewing, check Classic View. To stop email subject grouping, highlight a mailbox in the left sidebar, go to View at the top, uncheck Organize by Conversation.

I happen to like the new format of email ... after i unchecked the conversation stuff... my wife likes the old way but as she also uses an Iphone, Ipad etc. decided to stick with the new way as it is similar on all the machines...

That is what we are all up against... most users now have multiple platforms/devices they use every day!!!

therefore keep pushing the fact that you just want an opt-out/opt-in feature in the Iwork apps etc... I am not fighting the changes and the new world

All I hate .... until my accountant is satisfied is the Version/SaveAs issue... (and then I still want Save As...so much easier to use)

Contacted one of the Big Mac news sites. told them about our concerns. they do not understand us ...

they said we use all Iwork products we just duplicate and save...... What is your problem??

however not one comment back form them on Keynote and the many images constantly being Versioned....

The new Mountain Lion preview page on Apple site now clearly shows the (optional) return of both "save as..." and "don't save..." prompts. Which proves that if enough people complain, Apple does in fact listen, and that mindlessly adjusting to any change Apple makes, like Yvan proposes is in fact, not the right way to deal with judgemental flaws.

People who work so hard to force others to believe they know it all and their opinions are facts...are desperately trying to prove it to themselves. People know share their experience, allowing others to apply it to their situation and choose to accept it or not. There's no need to convince.

If rants waste your time and mailbox space, just set up a RULE to DELETE MESSAGES with his name in the content.

Apple makes a lot of bad decisions because it makes it on behalf of us users without paying much attention to what its users think. Usually it just goes for what it thinks is the lowest common denominator (never underestimating the intelligence of the American public), which these days with so many switchers is very low indeed.

Apple's programmers are like the Church making decisions on the congregation's lives without ever having families of their own. It is a theoritical "pure" interpretation. One they change to suit themselves, confident in their flocks habit of obedience.

It really takes a large crowd with pitchforks and burning torches to storm One Infinity Loop Cupertino for them to even pay the slightest attention.

If Apple has 2 crowds on its door, one shouting "Apple is always right", then it may choose to ignore both or just take longer to do the right thing.

The team that built OSX were outsiders in Apple and were strongly of the opinion that no-one in Apple had a clue because they had failed in their multiple attempts at creating a new operating system. This lead them to take the same view unfortunately to much of the Mac OS. About the only victory for long standing Mac users against the OSX programmers was the howling storm to retain Labels in the Finder.

It is sad that the obviously good often loses out to the attrition of bad fiddling and a need to change for changes sake so you can be seen to be doing something.

If Apple reinstates the "Save As…" and "Don't Save…" prompts, it won't be a victory for common sense, it will just be a bone thrown to those who can remember both good user interface design and what real productivity used to be on the Mac. Just one little corner of the magnificent heritage won't get the wrecking ball.

What I am waiting to find out is what happens to all those versions of the document if you choose not to save it? Do they get deleted? Or, do they just keep adding up and taking up disk space?

I'd rather have the choice to use that hard drive space for what I want to use it for, not for versions of my file that I've played around with, but don't want to save, or want to save with a new name.

Thing is, I just want to also turn off Versions. It sounds extremely dangerous with Preview - I've heard of images that are opened and slightly changed get saved and then when you close it (without saving), you've got a new image that you didn't want!! That sounds like a problem not an improvement!!

Others have said that some programs that use large files that change frequently, and the application is taking too long to save the versions!!

Anyway, I know it's all been said before, but I just can't see the logic in it. I have sent feedback to Apple for all the applications and OS, too.

Oh and, what's logic behind giving the new Duplicate an easier keystroke??!! Save As has been around a lot longer and Duplicate stole it's keystroke - NOT FAIR!!

Well, we got to keep telling them how hard it is to work with this stuff so they can quit trying to make our desktops into iPads and iPhones!!
