save as missing in lion

Once you install via the original iWorks disk the auto-update via system preferences or App Store in Mt Lion is gonna instantly ask you to upgrade to the newest version that does versions etc and removes the "save as" feature. You just permanently ignore that update the go to Apple Support pages and manually download that 9.0.5 update. I have a copy saved on my hard drive for future installs etc.

With Mt. Lion you have the option to bring back "save as" in a way as mentioned in this post. The problem is that if you make any change whatsoever in the open file before doing "save as" iWork automatically creates a version and saves the original file with those changes. You MUST remember to "save as" before doing any editing on a document.

I am so used to opening up docs doing my changes and then "save as" but then when I go to the original doc I'd have to go back and select the version I want. Hope that made sense.

In summary "save as" is back but if you don't want the original file being auto-saved with an edited version you must always remember to "save as" before your editing.

This was to big a pain for our work flow that we just reverted back to the older version of iWork and it's been working great. There is also excel and word to fall back to as well.

Thanks to a previous poster, raftr, I have Save As back in Pages in Mountain Lion! Yay! I also have the Command/Shift/S Keyboard shortcut. NO need to revert to an old version of Pages and I don't need duplicate!

I suggest all of you that are still commiserating over no Save As, to find raftr's post that gives specific directions with screen shots.

Yes save as is back but be careful as mentioned numerous times versioning is still happening and if you go back to original files you'll notice they have been auto-Saved (versions). You have to go back and revert to the original version. Just kind of a pain.

I always do a save as before I start to save anything different just in case I hit save by accident, so versions really isn't an issue for me. I do wish they would give us the option to turn that off, though, because that is a big ole mess to be saving all those wasted docs on the hard drive.

I need to warn you, just as jstepy said above, I have learnt since that this new "Save As…" is not the same command, it is more like "save, duplicate, close original". Works exactly as it did before Lion. Command/Shift/S... opens the dialog box, I change the title and where I want to save it to and the document on the desktop is now the retitled document. I don't understand what you mean by overwriting the original data. It's a whole different document; my original document is still there.

The only difference now is that there is autosave. Do the save as before making any changes to the original & autosave won't kick in & save any changes to the original.

Baffled as to how Apple can fundamentally change the behaviour of a feature which has been on all mac/pc systems since the dawn of time (1980s anyway!), the change in Mountain Lion just confuses me more. The way I use SaveAs is I get to a point where I think this needs to be a new document so I do a Save As... safe in the knowledge that the original document will be WITHOUT the changes I just made and my new saved document will have them. Am currently refusing to upgrade my systems from Snow Leopard so I don't have to change my way of working. Know I will have to face this brave new world sometime, but putting it off for as long as possible.

You can use versions in Lion & Mountain Lion to revert the document to a point you want. I don't see the issue as Save As not working "like before" but that autosave is also added to the mix.

Would just like to add my howl of outrage at this loss of 'Save As' I get in the most awful muddle with using dupliactes. I WANT TO TURN VERSIONS OFF. As a professional user i do not want or need it. Come on ASpple - I have supported you through the dark years and love your products....until Lion came along anyway!

So...I was really excited to read about 9.0.5. HAVE FOUND SAVE AS IN BEAN, AND IN WORD, BUT STILL HAVE A TON OF DOCS IN PAGES THAT I NEED TO AT LEAST BE ABLE TO CHANGE. SO, I DELETED THE UPGRADED I-WORK, AND RELOADED IT FROM THE DISK. MOUNTAIN LION WILL NOT OPEN THIS VERSION, SO I WENT TO LOOK FOR 1.0.5, AND DISCOVERED THAT 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 1ND 1.0.4, AS WELL AS THE 1.. AND 1.2 SERIES ARE THERE, BUT IT APPEARS THAT APPLE, DISCOVERING THE WORK AROUND HAS REMOVED 1.0.5 FROM THEIR UPGRADE SITE .

CAN THAT BE TRUE? IS APPLE THAT PETTY? IF ONE OF YOU THAT HAS USED THIS METHOD TO GET A REAL SAVE AS BACK WOULD CHECK AND TELL ME THE URL OF THE PAGE I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL. PERHAPS IT IS STILL THERE...BUT NOT WHERE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING...

OMG!! You are right, treefieldagain!!

You can go to Apple's Support page about the 9.0.5 update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4386), but it's not available anywhere in the downloads!!

Does anyone have an idea of where we can get/download the iWork 9.0.5 update??

I have the iWork 9.0.4 update and the 9.1, but 9.0.5 is nowhere to be located!!??

Wow Apple, how can you do that? That's just mean!

I have a copy, because after 28 years, I trust Apple about as far as I can throw them.

It is 70mb and anyone who doesn't mind having that emailed to them is welcome to it.
