Connect Thunderbolt display to a DVI Mac?
Is there a way to hook up a Thunderbolt display to my desktop that has DVI(not mini) outputs?
Any adaptors/cable combination?
Thank you.

This device at the Apple online store should do the trick, for US$130.
Kanex C247D Single-Link DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter
Alternatives are to replace the graphics card. the 5770 runs about US$250., the 5870 about US$450. GT120 (not a high-performance card) runs about US$150
Has anyone found a more inexpensive product than the Kanex model? If so, please share the link.

I am sure that Kanex don't do anything that will help you no matter how expensive it may be. I went round this loop for ages trying to find a way to connect my PC to the Thunderbolt display.....as of now there is NO WAY so don't waste your money.

So you're saying that the Kanex product doesn't do what it's designed to do? I am trying to connect the LED monitor to my MacPro's DVI slot. Is this not possible?
As far as I am aware, and I have done a lot of reading about this, you can connect an older display to the new Thunderbolt port of a new MAC but you CANNOT connect the Thunderbolt display to anything other than a MAC with a Thunderbolt port. The Kanex thing works from a Thunderbolt port into an older display, DVI or whatever but you cannot convert MAC DVI into Thunderbolt......I think. Something to do with a special Thunderbolt licence agreement that is due to expire some time this year, after which, hopefully, there should be some devices coming out to interface to Thunderbolt displays.
If anyone out there knows any different PLEASE let us all know.
Cheers and sorry for the bad news.
Thanks for that info. One year later, July 2013, is there now a way to output from a MacPro DVI port to those wonderful Thunderbolt displays?? No license agreements that have expired, etc.?
No.
I bought the Thunderbolt display, but use my 2009 MacBook for the port, not my 2007 MacPro, all side-by-side.
It is now 2014... Any way to do it now?
No.
OK, I'll check back next year.
OK. Same time next year. Same answer, to.
Do you think display port to mini display port would work?
Work for what? You asked this question on a post that has not had a replies for two years. Please start your own post fully describing your problem
