Audio stops after around 2 seconds, but it works fine on preview.

I have a video file that works correctly when viewed on PREVIEW, audio and video goes along with no problem, but when playing it on Quicktime the audio stops a few seconds after i press play, or if i forward or rewind the video the audio will only play for a few seconds. The interesting thing is that it does not happen with Preview, just QuickTime.

Any help would be thanked.

I am simply trying to play Quick Time videos and I don't know anything about codecs, or Divx or other technical aspects. I am, however, having the same problem. If I click on the diamond of the progress bar while the video is playing, I get a few seconds of audio. Problem started with installation of Lion. Using Quick Time 10.1. Thanks for any help in getting my sound back.

i tried deleting codecs from Library/Quicktime, with or without subtitles, i uninstalled the qt7, the problem is still there. the thing is, that the sample movie that i have plays with sound, no problem there.

i just looked at the codecs of the avis and now i'm perplexed. I have two avi files with the same video codec, same audio codec, one plays in qtx with sound, the other plays sounds for about 1 sec, than no sound.

I had the same problem. Theres something wrong with the audio things in Lion. My audio doesnt work at all (MacBookPro mid 09) unless I plug headphones and then take them off. Thats really wierd.

Anyways the reason I created an account for these support ages was to inform you guys that use VLC player. That's how I watched my movie. Quicktime can play most of vids I have, but some need to be played with something else and I have used VLC for those vids 🙂

Hi everyone,

I have been having the same issue even with the latest updates of Snow Leopard, and it continued after updating to Lion. Non of the latest OS X updates seem to address this issue so far, however, I found a work around using a free piece of software called Remux. It mainly re-codes the Audio format of the video file, allowing qt10 to read it propply.

The good thing about it, is that it does not take more than 2 minutes to re-code a 2 hour movie, unlike many other other converters that take longer time to convert the file.

Hope this helps.
