Reducing size of pdf in OSX Lion

Ladies and Gents,

Can you please let me know how I can reduce the size of pdf docs in OSX Lion. I use to be able to save as pdf, open it again and then "save as" with reduce option. In lion it only shows "Save version" instead of "save as". Thanks in advance and regards, Theo.

Step 7, Save this new application to your desktop.

Step 8, Drag your PDF onto this application.

What I do not clearly understand is that the file opens with preview, and the only indication that anything is doing anything, is a little gear up at the upper right corner of the screen turns, and then vanishes. The document does not close nor does it save!

Should I assume that the file I dragged onto this new application automatically saves over itself?

The file size is unchanged! I got so excited. 😟
