Reducing size of pdf in OSX Lion

Ladies and Gents,

Can you please let me know how I can reduce the size of pdf docs in OSX Lion. I use to be able to save as pdf, open it again and then "save as" with reduce option. In lion it only shows "Save version" instead of "save as". Thanks in advance and regards, Theo.

Right click on the app in Finder and Open with Color Sync.

In the lower left corner of ColorSync Utility is a pulldown menu of filters showing what resolution they reduce to.

WORK ON A COPY OF YOUR PDF and if you do not like the results either make another copy from the original or close the compressed copy without saving it.

Try the standard compression first. Hit Apply in the lower right. It does not save as but rather Saves as the same doc.

In addition to all the other working solutions posted here there is a great blog post http://fairerplatform.com/2013/01/how-to-compress-pdf-files-with-os-x-preview/ which also has a link to the very excellent Jerome Colas Quartz filters. I have installed them and now color sync works very well. But I have to say that the site created by fellow contributor to this thread at http://smallpdf.com/is an brilliant online solution. Thanks everyone.
