Aug 28, 2011 1:22 AM in response to burdell1by samaki,Try to uncheck "Sync Photos with..." in the Photos tab of iTunes, confirm deletion of photos from device, click the Apply button and then re-sync all photos again (after checking the ""Sync Photos with..."). That should work (at least it did so for me).

Oct 12, 2011 11:12 PM in response to samakiby binki,Didn't work for me. I'm syncing after unchecking everything but apps to try to regain the 15.6 GB of "Other" and now I'm getting this "failed to finish" message.

Oct 13, 2011 4:17 AM in response to samakiby xHoBx,For me it worked but it wasn't the photos but the ringtones. Once I've unchecked the sync of them it worked. Not very smoothly. On the first sync after it got over the error message the iPhone got hung up in the copying process. But after disconnecting the iPhone and restarting both the Mac and the iPhone it was finally ok.

Oct 13, 2011 12:15 PM in response to binkiby binki,Even unchecking Apps didin't work. What ended up working was a full restore. Everything is good now and I got back the 15.6 GB of "Other" space that had gone missing.

Oct 17, 2011 12:25 AM in response to UsuPKunGby Re1iant,Solved "sync session failed to finish" by resstarting and performing a restore to iPhone. Choose from my backup and all is well and all my data, music, apps, etc are back just fine.
Thanks everyone!
