MP3 icon no longer displays artwork in finder

Yes I know there was an earlier thread with this name but this is a new thread because when I upgraded to iTunes 10.4 the problem came back. When I open a folder of mp3s in Finder old ones have the artwork but new ones do not even though I downloaded the artwork in iTunes. If I copy an mp3 file that has the artwork in the icon and paste it in a new folder in Finder the icon no longer shows the artwork. The artwork appears when I play the songs in iTunes but does not appear in Finder. I can go into an iTunes playlist click Info and click on the Artwork Tab where I have an album cover showing, click on the album cover, click apple-X (cut) then apple-V (paste), then the artwork suddenly appears on the thumbnail in the folder in Finder. Seems to fix it in list view and cover flow view but not in column view. Running OSX 10.68 What gives?

Another way to solve it:

select all of your mp3 files, then press cmd + opt+ i, and then change the app you use to oen your mp3, in my Mac I selected MplayerX instead of iTunes, then go back to iTunes and voilá!! You can see your artwork in lion again.

I don´t know if you realize by know, but this only happens with new files, all the mp3 you had before upgrading to 10.4 or Lion works just fine.

Another annoying bug happens when I connect my iPod [Nano 5g] to my MB, then open iTunes and surf Ipod's music through it: there's a lot of artwork missing, but I can see them perfectly in mi iPod's screen.

I just found a way to make it work, I hope it's useful to all of you:

You have to download Onyx, then go to "Maintenance", and there's a section there that is called Rebuild, go in there and select the Display of folders' content, and then pres the execute button; it take a lon time, so be patient.

after it finishes, go back to your music folder, and you should be able to see the artwork 😀.

Hope this help you guys!!

Yes, this problem is definitely related to OS X (Leopard or Lion) as I can not get Quick Look or Finder to show album art not associated with iTunes (that is to say, music files not part of the iTunes Library). This definitely started happening after upgrading to 10.6.8. I have no idea why this has happened and it is frustrating that Apple doesn't seem to be acknowledging it. I really do hope that some type of fix is coming, though I doubt those of us still on Leopard will get one...

This is really getting frusturating. I manually add all of my tags and album artwork before adding my music to iTunes. Interesting enough songs that I add to iTunes, their album artowork reappears in finder. If I go to Users/MyUser/Music/iTunes/iTunesMedia/Music/Artist/Album, the icons of the songs will show the album artwork and it will show in quicklook. But, if I drag the mp3 to another folder the album artwork is again not reconized. All third-party software still shows album artowork.

I updated iTunes to 10.4 before upgrading to lion. I think that Apple should at least give us the ability to downgrade to a working version of iTunes, as they have had weeks to fix this widespread issue and have negleted to do so. I would hate to reimage my computer just to get album artowrk back.

Well Ben,

after SL -> Lion migration and iTunes 10.4 installation I gone crazy as I opened a Finder window on my Music folder and saw that some mp3 just lost their cover (and I say SOME, even on the same folder/album).

I read another post and people say that problem is there even on Leopard and Snow Leopard, just installing 10.4 (10.4.1 did NOT fix this issue), and someone solved reverting back to iTunes 10.3.

I would add that 10.4 killed performance on mass updating tags...

I already wrote and always will that the problem is not OS related as people with Leopard, SL and Lion have the problem.

I tried to install iTunes 10.5.1b3 and problem is not fixed, just copying "cover diaplyed" mp3 dragging it from its folder to the Desktop made the cover disappear. Then I opened Terminal and checked if there was some difference between them (diff) and looked for some strange extended attribute, but the files look exactly the same.
