Changing duration of multiple clips

I have imported a large number of still images (jpegs) into a timeline. I want to change all of them to a duration of one second.

This would seem to be an easy task. Select all of the images, right click, go to the Item Properties>Timing contextual menu and change the Duration field. Wa-la, right? Alas, no.

The problem is that when I do this, it only affects a single image, the first clip in the folder containing all of the images.

I would be grateful for some help with this. I have already performed alterations on a number of these still images or I would simply import them again at the desired duration.

Thank you in advance!

I am using FCP 6.0.6.

You can either -

1) Place all the still image clips on the timeline, select all, then control-click on any one of the selected clips and from the drop down menu choose Duration, set your desire duration, and all the timeline clips should now be changed to the duration you wanted . . .

OR

In Final Cut Pro, go to the menu Final Cut Pro > User Preferences and click on the Editing Tab.

Change the value for Still/Freeze Duration to the time you want.

Click OK.

Re-import your stills. They now will all have the duration you just set.

I wanted to avoid re-importing, so I'm grateful for your first option. I thought myself into a corner by attempting to select the images in the bin instead of in the actual timeline (X!) and then by going to Item Properties in the contextual menu after Right-Clicking the images in the timeline (XX!). Selecting Duration in that contextual menu solved my problem. Thank you, Meg the Dog!
