CS4ServiceManager How to remove?

I just installed Lion a couple days ago and now everytime I restart I get the following dialog box and somehow Software Update is launched but when I hit OK in the db, the db quits and so does Software Update.

What is this and why is it happening and how do I get rid of this behavior?

Please!

Thanks

I get a blank page trying to view that jpg on 10.6.8, I have 10.7 but dislike it so much I hate to boot into it to see if it shows there. 😟

Could be many things, we should start with this...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

I encountered this as well after updating to Lion. For some reason, Java was lost during the upgrade, which is why this message was appearing and Software Update never saw the Java update.

Type "java -version" into a Terminal window and if you get "No Java runtime present..." yours was lost also, otherwise the solution I am referencing probably will not help.

Solution(?): I downloaded (Java for OS X Lion Update 1) and installed it directly. No problem since and CS 4 works.

Hope this helps.

This was an issue for me after upgrading to Mountain Lion, so I thought I'd provide the solution that worked for me.

CS4ServiceManager is an always-on software version updater from Adobe; it runs in the background and starts when you boot your Mac. It requires the Java run-time which, like Adobe Flash, has been identified by Kaspersky as a security risk and disabled in the default OSX install by Apple. It's also a drag on performance, and is just one more process I don't really need on my computer. The downside is that I may be running a version without the very Adobe latest patches, which may be important if you're a heavy Adobe app user.

To disable the software, open a Terminal window and type the following:

launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.adobe.CS4ServiceManager.plist

The command line utility launchctl is an administrative tool to load, unload agents and daemons that OSX starts at boot time. The arguments 'unload -w' removes the specified program, kills it if it's currently running, and saves (writes) the change to disk so that it's permanent.

You can also find (and remove if you choose) ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/###CS4ServiceManager - on my system I renamed it rather than removed it entirely.

I use Adobe Elements 8 and haven't seen any issues since removing CS4ServiceManager.
