Lion Safari 5.1: pdf file is not opening inside the iFrame

"When trying to open the pdf file inside the iFrame, it is opening outside the iFrame in Preview Application and leaving behind the iFrame as blank . Earlier with Safari 5.0.5 version this problem was not coming and pdf was opening properly inside iFrame".

When I am creating a sample html file with below code, the pdf is opening out side the iFrame.

<iframe height="900" width="100%" src="TestPDF.pdf" id="displayPDF"/>

Can any one please help me out to resolve this issue and open the pdf file inside the iFrame with latest Lion Safari 5.1

Safari browser V 5.1-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.7), Safari 5.1 with Mac OS X 10.7

I think the problem must be limited to the iframe tag in particular, or frames in general. One of my websites has links to pdf files that open directly in the browser (see http://www.raffca.org.uk/docs/association_rules.pdf), but I have been unable to see a pdf if it should be loaded within a frame (such as at http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/59866/supplements/14713); this latter page is not an iframe, but it is giving the same symptoms. I have removed any presence of the Adobe Reader plugin (I don't use Adobe Reader at all), so it is clearly a problem with Safari's built-in interpretation of frame/iframe PDF presentation. It's probably worth passing this on to Apple as a problem.

You're right, Gogolathome; I've just done that too, with the second web page (above) displayed: "A PDF file should be displayed in the second frame, but it is downloaded instead. Before Lion/Safari update this functioned correctly. I do not have Adobe Reader installed and other PDF files display within Safari if not within a frame/iframe."

I can verify that this is NOT an adobe conflict - and that it is in fact a SAFARI ISSUE. I had adobe proudcts installed, tried everything I could think of assuming it was a compatibility issue and got nowhere. So I have now done a fresh install of Lion - complete with a hard drive wipe. Before installing any software, I tried the links posted by Jan - the split frame example still doesn't work! In case apple thinks this isn't a big deal, soem people use these sorts of sites quite regularly. In my case, I'm a PhD candidate in history and spend entire months viewing digitized microfilm in split-frame environments such as Jan's link. Because of this problem created by APPLE, I've had to find other things to do until they get around what must be a simple fix (as Safari did it fine before).

Interestingly if you do a sample HTML file like this:

<object src="test.pdf" type="application/pdf" height="50%" width="50%"></object>

You get an "Missing Plugin" message and clicking that you'll get "To view this content, you need Adobe Reader. Click More Info to visit the plug-in’s website".

Apparently Safari 5.1 does not have a PDF plugin and just downloads "unknown" iframe -content automatically.
