Recommend 2 Bay enclosure with RAID

I have 2 MyBook external 500GB hard drives. It has come to my attention that RAID 1 (mirroring the two) is what I need. I can't find an affordable unit for this.

Also - I'm new to this and don't understand how it works. If I have one "perfect" drive (one of the 500GB drives) that has EVERYTHING, will I be able to put that in as a sort of master? Then once they're mirrored it won't matter. I just don't want to lose my stuff!

Thanks!

while I would love to double check AM sure that it's out of date so God saved me on that. I just think that in lieu of it precaution is taking a front seat, yea.

Going with the green's makes sense since it's mirrored....but dang could you imagine them BOTH dying?... that's discomforting yea?

man I just found the RE4 WD drives. they're raid drives. with cool tech! but a 1TB drive is 140.... I'd really like to get 2x2TB...which for 140 I could get blacks. dang. I guess....blacks.

wait..what about seagate? what is this 5900RPM business?? I hear they're not so hot now-a-days? Back when I was looking Seagate and WD were top. Hitachi was strayed from.

so much research..

definitely like this - http://dealmac.com/Hitachi-2-TB-SATA-6-Gbps-Internal-Hard-Drive-for-70-3-s-h/484 030.html - but don't know about hitachi. My main reason for leaving them was one died in my old iBook. but now a WD might've died.... too much death.

Stay completely the **** away from WD Blue's what ever you do!

Yeah that looks fine. Don't know how reliable they are sorry.

So you are starting to think what would happen if both drives failed hey? Well you know the only way to reduce that threat is to get that Drobo S. 😝

Anyhow, when you have made your mind up & want a yay or nay 2nd opinion feel free.

I decided on the WD green's because reading reviews it seems even a ton of blacks are DOA or dying so it's hit or miss with either drive.

I'll let you know how it all pans out.

but question: the green's aren't true 7200RPM drives right? So...would I even get a big speed boost using the expresscard? I imagine it's a heck of a lot faster than USB even still right?
