Brand New battery holds only 2 hrs. MBP 5,1 15"

I've calibrated, I've taken out the battery and held down power, I've unplugged everything but the ethernet cord, turned keyboard lights all the way to 0, turned display to mid brightness, quit applications... basically made my computer useless and all I have is:

notice the time, this is basically with nothing running but the os. (checked in activity monitor before unplugging)

see how I only have 97% after battery is done calculating? and it only says 2:31hrs! again notice the time

and lastley this is what it looked like when I open up chrome and I'm on the login screen for apple support. looks like i've lost over an hour in 4 min!

Could it be because I have 8gb RAM? however I only have 2.17gb being used while performing the last part of the this test.

Simple.

did I tap into your german side? Thank you for spending the time to try to trouble shoot this with me, I guess I'll just use this as a desktop computer and use my iOS device on the go. I've given you helpful points but since you weren't able to answer this aside from confirming this to be a little out of the ordinary, I can't give you a correct answer. but again, thank you for your time!

Apple needs to investigate! I am contacting support today. If we cant use our computers like they should be used...then what is the point! Im not going to turn off stuff or watch what I run due to a faulty battery! Hour and half runtime *****.

You need to Calibrate it once a month, not every time, but at least twice in a row on your first use, and then in a week then in 2 weeks, and then once a month after that.

As well as using it normally. It's ok to use it out on the deck and put it back on the charger at 85%.

Hello Adam,

Just a small note, Apple is not the only one with the short battery time. If you go all out (AKA: play games, edit video, Audio, etc.) it uses both the AMD graphics (turns off the build in graphics) and the "turbo" CPU feature (overclocks the CPU up to 3.2Ghz). That's why you might only get 1.5hs of battery life.

As an example the brand new Alienware M14x also only gets about 1 hour of battery life when you play games. (Dell says you can get up to 6 hours of battery life)

Most systems that have the new i5 & i7 CPUs (no matter the manufacturer) don't really get the 7 to 10 hours of battery time. However, If you want to get the 7 to 10 hours of battery the following must be true: no internet, no movies, no games... in other words if you only use your PC for word processing, then you might get the 7 to 10 hours of battery life.

I also second AussieDJ please do start another post
