~/library is hidden

When I tried to install new profiles for printer photo paper, I discovered that my user/library folder is hidden. Since my older profiles are there, and colorsync is using them, I have to get to the folder. For those who have the same problem, and assuming that Apple is not about to tell us what to do, I offer the following, although it may not stay online long.

In Terminal type "chflags nohidden - ~/Library"

That solves the problem. Apple, what were you thinking?

Alternatively, you could merely press the option key as you are selecting the Go menu in the Finder and a menu item referencing your user library will appear.

I believe hiding the Library folder is a godsend for IT types. Inexperienced users can muck things up by playing around in there, so best to keep it hidden unless you're really motivated—as you were—to find it.

I would agree 100%, if I hadn't spent the good part of a morning trying to figure out what was going on. All I wanted to do was try out a new printing paper, and I found myself involved with Linux commands I hoped wouldn't destroy my machine. But since I got absolutely no documentation with my download of Lion, (or if I did, it disappeared with the files after installation), I had no way of knowing the simple step that was just revealed to me.

Thanks for the help. And I would certainly advise everyone to do it your way, not mine. Now, will someone please write a manual with all of this good stuff.

To be honest, I really have little time to spend trying to find answers to simple questions, or for reading and writing forum threads. I never do such things except when I become so frustrated with OS's that don't do what I think they should do. Those of us who use their MAC for productive purposes would really appreciate Apple's support with some kind of documentation explaining how their beautiful new system works.

Now, I have to get back to work. Thanks Andrew and Mackenzie.
