Slow iMac 8.1 with Lion

I'd also like to state that my iMac 8.1 Gb RAM 2.4 GHz is very sluggish after Lion update. Codncuted all the usual cleanup but apart from faster startup after trashing the caches the rest of the performance is terrible.

On some occassions I empty the trash but don't get the audio for 5-10 seconds afterwards.

I use Aperture 3 and it has done to the dogs in performance.

Sometimes the cursor vanishes for a few seconds.

I'm not going to revert to Snow Leopard for a month or so to give Apple a chance to make improvements - but I really do hate being used to benchtest software for huge crprorations - do I look like a guinea pig!!

Sounds like a memory leak perhaps in one of the apps u listed. Or perhaps ur mac is running out of GPU memory? I have no reall expierence with this type of problem however, one that grows over time. But it does sound like one app would be the culprit. Looking at the activity monitor / log files over time might be a way to troubleshoot. Cheers!

strange, I have the same machine with 4gb and it's a screamer with Lion installed. I am trying now to upgrade to 6gb ram so I can improve Parallels 7 performance, but even with that running, I can do everything...

Not the same Mac as the OP or yourself as he states it shipped with 10.3.

My guess would be both GPU insufficient.

Just to say that i didn't solve a problem. Theres no rule when the slowing begins... I'm confused becouse on my laptop (macbook early 2008 with gma graphic) running exact same OS, and exact same apps, and theres no glitches or slownes. And everybody knows that gma x3100 and iMac's ati HD2600 cannot compare becouse iMac have graphic card way better than macbook, plus iMac works with 4gigs of ram (macbook only 2gigs), and processor is also better on iMac. If theres some conflict, i hope that further updates can resolve this anoying issue... 😟

On Lion my iMac 8.1 used to become really slow after a while. I figured out, that it was some Graphics thing (ATI

Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB)

) that caused the slow and unresponsive mac, after it woke up from Sleep. I left the default option ("Sleep after x minutes of inactivity") on in Power Management. FOR NOW, at least until someone figures out how this doesn't happen, i'll simply leave the Power Management SLEEP thing off.

Though I'm still having some issues on my mac to solve...

By the way, does somebody know what "IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero" in the system Console means? I already uninstalled adobe flash, so I guess that's not it....
