Shockwave Player Error msg

Since installing Lion, am getting a pop-up unrelated to what I'm doing. It starts with: "To view the movie . . . " no matter what I'm doing. I can't figure out how to comply with it. Close it and it may pester with 3 or 4 pop backs, or may go away for awhile. Someone online can make it happen by going to Safari>Preferences>Privacy. True for me, too, I discovered. How do I make it stay away?

Before downloading something I really don't want, do you think Apple will fix this in a software udate?

I guess I'm not understanding why you don't want it since you are obviously trying to view a movie that requires it.

No, Apple will never update this software. I don't recall that they have never included it as part of the OS. You must have installed it yourself at some point. Make sure you have the latest version (11.6.6.636) by going to http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ and downloading the installer.

No, I was not trying to view a movie that required it. I was simply resetting Safari when the Shockwave Error window appeared. It happens every time I reset Safari.

Ah, that clears it up.

Well then if you don't think you need it (there isn't a lot of Director media out there, but I know that a few applications use it for help) you can probably just trash the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/DirectorShockwave.plugin. But if it were me I would just make certain that I had the latest version (as previously cited).

I had the same problem with the shockwave 32 bit pop up window , so I did what gsuarez said and it fixed my situation.

- dowload and install the latest version of shockwave here. ( note that the .dmg fil says "full 64 bit ")

http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

- quit safari and relaunch.

- no problems so far with 64 bit version of shockwave.

Having the same problem others have mentioned. And attempted to follow the instructions laid out: Downloaded the latest version of Shockwave, and tried to install it. In each case the installation fails. The browers are shut down--actually everything save just the system/finder software is shut down. But the installation fails, confirmed by going back to Safari (v.6.2.2) and deleting cookies. Get the same "Start Safari in 32-bit-mode" error msg. So for some reason I don't seem able to update Shockwave.

Any advice?
