ok, I have been having this problem as well on a Windows 7 x64 system since upgrading to 10.5. I have tried the following steps:

- Netsh winsock reset as admin and restart

- Flushed the DNS

- uninstalled and reinstalled

- Ran the windows fix links

- logged in on a different profile on the computer to make sure it wasn't profile specific.

- Ran the diagnostics in Itunes to make sure it passed.

- Made sure the Windows Firewall was off

What would be my next step?

Many thanks Rod. This problem arose for me after the previous upgrade (Safari gave up the ghost as well), but managed to resolve it by unloading all Apple programs and then reloading iTunes. Didn't work after the latest upgrade though & was also preventing the iPad from syncing. All is well after following your advice.

However I'm now loath to upgrade the iPad in case similar problems are encountered. Has anyone experienced any problems in upgrading their iPad?

I am in the same boat too. Since upgrading to 10.5, I cannot connect to the store. I've tried the Command line utility to reset the winsock, tried running itunes without antivirus, I've uninstalled and cleaned my registry I dont know how many times. I've given up. The software is just plain buggy. However Apple will never admit that they have a flawed product. I mean, look at what it took for the iPhone 4 antenna fix! I refuse to reformat my computer just to get one program to work. I suppose in a few more months when the next version of itunes comes out maybe some of us will get relief.

I tried a bunch of things, including the "netsh winsock reset" command, but what finally seems to have fixed it (on my sister's family Vista PC) is completely uninstalling NetNanny. Can't say with 100% certainty what the dependencies are, but it looks like in this case, the problem was NetNanny.

PS- be careful to uninstall NetNanny by the rules- it has its hooks deep into the OS.

I have the same problem and followed the same procedures, namely go to the Windows (XP) control panel, delete all things Apple and started to download Itunes 10.5. Unfortunately, the download keeps stoping about 20% in . I've made 2 trips to my local Apple store in Freehold, NJ without resolving the problem. I think the idea of forming an unruly mob may get you the 'bug letter' treatment (explanation on request). Rather, I would suggest complaining to the Federal Trade Commission about Apple's 'brush off' support. If this were a PC, I probably could have found a bazillian solutions on the net. I received my I-Pad (model 1) as a Christmas gift last year. Its nice but I wouldn't have bought it for myself. For one thing, Apple comes out with Ipad-2 with more features (2 cameras) at the SAME price. Was there anything mentioned about compensating model 1 Ipads for their obvious loss in value? My machine was out only a few months before Apple released the model 2. This is arrogance, pure and simple. Sorry to ramble on. I'm really ****** off at Apple's treatment of me as a consumer . I plan to write the FTC and request they consider auditing Apple's business practice with regard to how they treat their customers. Right now, I have a crippled machine worth about as much as a square frisbee.

Anyone who has come accross a solution to downloading Itunes 10.5, would earn my undying gratitude by sending a copy to

I came to this site looking for an answer to a problem which I notice a goodly number of Apple customers have been having involving obtaining and using the newest version of Itunes. My particular problem starts with not being able to even download the file. I had hoped that the response would appear here for all who were having the same problem to benefit by. Instead I get a smart-alec answer ostensibly from an Apple 'expert' that is of no use to me or anyone else. So for the benefit of those still struggling without an answer, I offer my experience.

I am running a Dell desktop with XP service pack 3. I had deleted all programs involving Apple due to a suspected corrupt file and that is where I stand today. I cannot download Itunes 10.5.1 as the download starts and stops almost immediately. However, I was able to download on my Dell at work so the problem seems to be mine. If I had to guess, I'd say that the download routine is expecting something from my machine before the download process can begin. Might be something either left over from my unstalling or something in the registry holding up the works. hope one of you ( not the wiseass mentioned above) might have something further to go on & come up with the solution.

I have been involved in personal computers since 1985 having owned TI99-4, Radio Shack TRS80, IBM PC, Commodore64 and assembled/upgraded several PCs. I have always found tech support for all readily available and freely given in a professional manner.

I don't know if this will help everyone, but it worked for me and it had nothing to do with the winsock, windows firewall setting, uninstalling Apple software, or any other solution out there except that I had PC Tools Spyware Doctor and I uninstalled it. There was a post from someone who updated their version of PC Tools Spyware Doctor, but I wasn't using it and just uninstalled... so after a few months of trying to figure this problem out, I FINALLY HAVE THE STORE LOADING!

PC Tools Spyware Doctor was the culprit - either update it or uninstall it... I may try installing it again later, but for now I'm just happy to have the store loading.

Hi, folks!

I've been having this problem with iTunes for months now. When I saw Spyware Doctor come up as a possible culprit, I went to pctools.com and did some searching to see if PC Tools is aware of any iTunes issues. Lo and behold, I give you this:

http://www.pctools.com/kb/article/protection-software-itunes-is-not-working-corr ectly-with-pc-tools-protection-software-installed-fixed-323.html

So--if you have Spyware Doctor with Antivirus (like I do), there is interference with "PC Tools LSP." They have a fix for this, and you can read it here, but it's basically this:

1) log into your pctools account

2) click on the license for your Spyware Doctors program

3) Under "Supported PlugIns," uncheck the "email guard"

4) Open up Spyware Doctor, then run a smart update. (You might not get any updates, depending on when you last updated the program. I didn't get anything.)

5) Reboot your computer.

This should fix things! I was skeptical about this because I didn't have to update Spyware Doctor at all, but this did the trick, all right. For some of the folks who have this problem, it just might be Spyware Doctor's fault (or PC Tools Internet Security).

Hope this helps!
