Can't Connect to a Citrix Session

I use Safari on my MacBook pro to connect to a Windows environmenbt at work that uses Citrix. The applet uses Java and has been working fine. Now that I have updated Safari to 5.1, I get the folowing error message when I try to connect.

This browser does not use the Cocoa Java Plug-In.

1) Make sure that the JVM 1.4.1 or later is installed

2) Check that this browser supports Java for Cocoa (such as Safari)

Then I get an Application Security box that says:

Unsupported browser

On Mac, the client applications session manager requires Safari 1.0 or later. Other browsers are not supported.

This is obviously not true as I am using Safari 5.1.

I know that the Citrix environment is working correctly because I can conect to it on my iPad. The only thing that I think has changed is the version of Safari.

My Java software is up to date (v 1.6). Anyone else run into this or have any suggestions?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

I used your workaround last month to re-establish use of my Citrix web portal--used Pacifist to download the older Safari 5.0.5 and it worked fine. Now I accidentally/foolishly lost it again by accepting the update from Apple of Java to 1.6.0_29 (update 6, just released). I went to Apple's Java download page you referenced in Step 2 above, but they have taken update 5 down and only can get update 6. I can't find any other way to get back to Java 1.6.0_26. Any ideas?

Thanks if you or anyone can help,

Anne

Worth a try I guess. My email is anne.simons@ucsf.edu

Looked like there was an upgrade of Citrix or Juniper client today (message on portal web site about being down for a couple hours for an "update"), but alas, it didn't work for me in either version of Safari. The Java Secure Application Manager loads OK now--this was NOT happening before the update--, but I still can't get to the final step of opening an application from the Citrix portal. so I'm not sure the old version of Java will help, but like I said, worth a try.

OK Meghan, I've added you to that Dropbox folder containing the older version of Java to run with Safari 5.0.5. But it sounds like your situation is a little different since you're not getting that message that says you don't have the right version of Safari or Java. FYI, sol3587 said it worked for him, but after the upgrade by my IT dept that I mentioned above, I reloaded the Citrix ICA client (run the software detection available in the Citrix portal to get to this) and everything worked with Safari 5.1 and latest Java, so I never ended up using the old Java.
