Gathering Genius information in iTunes 10.4 crashes iTunes in Windows 7.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes with no success. All other iTunes functions work. I can update Podcasts, purchase music and sync my iPod but I can't run/update Genuis without crashing iTunes. I get the message "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" The progress bar gets to the "n" of "Gathering Information about your library" every time when it crashes. I have the latest iTunes and iPod software installed and this problem did not show up until after I updated to iTunes 10.4.

I just experienced an issue that I believe to be the same, but it occurred after I tried to move my iTunes library to a new computer. I did so by creating a new library, then adding the previous library's "iTunes Media" folder into the new library. Everything copied over just fine, but every time I try to enable Genius, it lets me sign in, agree to the license, and then it crashes iTunes with the same message you described above.

I didn't sync any devices, I do have Home Sharing enabled (so the PC is authorized), and I don't quite know what's up. Genius worked on the previous computer perfectly.

The new PC's details: Windows 7 (SP1) 64-bit, 2GB RAM, ~1.0 Mbps download connection, 1 Ghz Dual-core AMD processor.

Ok, I also have an Acer and have done every troubleshooting step known to man. Uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, created new profile and new library and it crashed after imported 1 CD. Disabled AV software and firewall with 0 success. I opened a ticket with a specialist and we sent my computer spec information that iTunes to a programmer. Haven't heard back yet and really want to get it back running!! I really liked using it!

I also have a newer Acer Aspire. Don't know if the problem is related or not. Spent all sorts of time yesterday turning services off through msconfig to look for conflict --> no good.

Hopefully you get somewhere, lfautrey. I've gotten no help from Apple, Windows or Acer; one of those classic "it's not us it's them" support scenarios. Most frustrating.

I haven't heard anything back from Apple support yet. I have the technician's phone number so I'm going to give him a call after the holidays if I don't hear the email follow up. I chatted with Acer support and they're recommending I call the paid "Answers By" technicians. Not sure if I'll do it yet. It works under a brand new administrator profile with one song that I downloaded from the iTunes site but as soon as I import one CD and update Genius it crashes. I love Genius and really, really want it back. Help Apple!!!

I am noticing a patern here as i have the same problem. I recently decided to transfer my files from my macbook air to my acer aspire and when i tried to run genius on the acer it crashed itunes. So i figure its got to be something with acer aspires and genius just not being able to run. So i would just wait for another update because you have to figure, since this is a fairly popular type of computer, that there getting alot of complaints and will come in with a patch soon. Until then i recomend going to genres and activating shuffle.
