It happens with all the software I have tried so far, including : finder (up to 49%), firefox 5 (up to 70% fan spins like crazy 
), sparrow (up to 50%), safari (up to 30%).
Really annoyed here. I'm with a macbook pro 15-inch early 2009, 2.6ghz, 4gb ram.
If it keeps like this I suppose I have to downgrade 
.

on this box, update to lion from 10.6.8. graphic card could be. our MBPs have the worst one ever shipped by apple. That box is on it's 3rd logic board now.

yes, that's with Firefox.
Scrolling is processor intensive, but it shouldn't really make a difference in performance. That's what virtual memory is for. Of course, your VM depends on your free disk space.
Unfortunatly it does it with all applications I have, finder included. Plenty of space in HD, more than 100gb. This is a prpblem with Lion, hope they are going to fix it soon. Others have same problems: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1196158&highlight=scroll
Same here! Got a mid 2007 Mac Mini 1,84GHz with 2,5GB of RAM and Intel GMA 950 graphics and when I scroll in any Application the CPU usage goes through the roof. Also the fan speed, and the noise is very disturbing... Tried with overlay scrollbars and smooth scrolling turned off as suggested in other forums but no change...
Any updates on this issue with scrolling and cpu usage in Lion? I'm having the same issue on my early 2007 MBP and would dearly like it to be addressed: could more customizable options in scrolling, scrollbar and such help? The reduction in such options with Lion is not helpful.
Nothing? Over a year with complaints about this simple scrolling issue and no attempt at mitigating it from Apple or suggestions at fixes from the forums?
