It happens with all the software I have tried so far, including : finder (up to 49%), firefox 5 (up to 70% fan spins like crazy 
), sparrow (up to 50%), safari (up to 30%).
Really annoyed here. I'm with a macbook pro 15-inch early 2009, 2.6ghz, 4gb ram.
If it keeps like this I suppose I have to downgrade 
.

Is hot it works,if i record a movie with imovie and my isight camera when process cpu go to 100%.
I think may with more ram different but at the moment is using lot cpu and ram for almost nothing..
Scrolling cannot take half cpu.
May isn't just scrolling is the open apps,i mean now safari is quicker so when is open is using more cpu,isn't scrolling.
When you scroll you move the contant in the page so the graphics are working and they using also cpu so is why you see a big use there,i know the idea is that the graphics card do the job and no use cpu but like no 100%..
I'm sorry but is not opening new apps that causes the problem. Apps cause high cpu usage WHEN scrolling, and, as I said in previous message, others are having the same problem.
Scrolling cannot take half cpu.
Does it behave the same way if you create a new User (go to System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin acct) and test in this new account?

OK, let's have a look at your Console log. Do some scrolling and then open /Utilities/Console and copy/paste the recent content here.
I did a lot of scrolling in the last two minutes, This is what I got in console:

Resetting smc doesn't help.
It's true, scrolling spikes CPU in FF and Safari here, but not so much in Chrome. I turned on the Activity meter and watched it with all three. But the system does not seem to suffer performance wise, but I could see how this might be a concern...I guess...
Well, it has a tangible effect on the fan of my macbook pro that starts to spin like a ventilator. I know that there are a lot of people out there complainig about spinning fans and hot macbook pros. This can be one of the many possible causes.
