Once you have an app in a Launchpad folder, how do you get it out and back into the root level of the Launchpad?

Simply click to open the folder, then click and hold on the icon that you want to move. Once you've "grabbed" it, just drag it out of the folder!
I did that but it didn't work.
Specifically, I held down on the icon. All of the icsons started jiggling. I dragged the icon above the folder area but when I released it snapped back into the folder. It also happened when I dragged it below the folder area also and it still snapped back into the folder.
I may not be following your directions but I think I am.
You are almost there, click on the one you want to move out until it is jiggling, drag it above the line, wait for the LaunchPad main screen to appear, drag it where you want then let go and click anywhere to finish.
If you release the app too quickly it can jump back into the folder. When you dragged it off of the folder did you wait for the folder to close itself before releasing the mouse button or was the folder still showing?
I dragged it out of the folder area and held it there for over 30 seconds. Nothing happened. When I released it snapped back into the folder.
Let me understand from the beginning. I open Launchpad first, then I open the folder that has the icon I'd like to remove, then I hold down on the icon until it jiggles. Are these the first steps you are talking about?
You've got it right so far.
Well, then, do I have to hold it down longer than 30 seconds for the folder to close or do something else? Nothing happends no matter how long I hold it outside the folder.
It should only take 1 or 2 seconds for the folder to close. Can you tell us what app you are trying to move? Did you put the app in the folder originally or was it one of the pre-made folders? Have you tried restarting your computer (and NOT checking "reopen windows when logging back in").
I'm moving a non-Apple app.
I put the app in a folder myself into one with a comparable non-Apple app.
No, I have not re-started since unchecking that "reopen box." I'll try that now. Thanks!
I've made a short video showing how I am able to move apps in and out of folders in Launchpad. You can view it here: Link
Very nice video! Apple should use it on their tutuorial videos page.
Unfortunately, your movements are exactly what I'be been doing, but the icon still snaps back to the folder. It never moves out of the folder, no matter how long I leave it there.
I'm using a MacPro with all the latest versions of all the software so I don't think I can update anything. Obviously my system is not working the way it's supposed to!
I was having the same problem of not being able to drag apps OUT of a folder. I was doing the operation using a Wacom stylus/pad. When I tried doing it with the Magic Trackpad I had success.
I can confirm this is a Wacom spacific issue. I've had the same problem.
I can also confirm that this is a Wacom tablet issue. When I used my trackpad, I was able to move the app out of the Launchpad folder.
I use a wacom tablet and I'm having the same issue 😕
I do not have a trackpad or wish to buy one at this point - any other ideas to fix this? Does a mouse work?
