How to resume downloads in Safari 5.1

I recently upgraded to Lion, and am in the process of downloading a game, however my download was interrupted when i needed to shut down my computer for the night. When I logged on this morning I assumed I could resume the download from the night before, and to my surprise I found out that I couldnt. In the old version of Safari there was a resume button in the downloads window - that seems to have disappeared in the new version. Any thoughts? Drives me mad when apple remove features when they add others.

Hi all, I did a little test and hope this helps.

If the download history has also been cleared, you will not see the Downloads arrow as mentioned by Carolyn, shown in the image below and therefore not be able to resume from this option.

If you do not have the option, then go to your Downloads folder and you should hopefully have a partially download file:

User uploaded file

Double click/tap this and it will open by default in to Safari and you should once again see the download resume from where it left off. The downloading icon will appear in the top right corner as well as showing the item update in the Downloads folder itself

Note, that if you do not have a Safari running, the download will start Safari, resume and complete without necessarily opening a new window.

One more note: Having read another post, the ability to resume may be dictated by the server/service you are downloading from. If that is so, the solution above may not work all cases and so should not be regarded as a problem with Safari.

there is no solution on safari for this at this time it is better too jump over to Firefox and ditch Safari until Apple gets there house in order.

You can not resume the downloads from safari and cannot reactivate or continue from a partialy downloaded file. Bottom line these where functions that where available in earler versions of Safari and have been removed or are not working anymore. Should not pass just pass the buck because the Apple employees are too lazy to do there job.

Safari *does* have the ability to resume downloads: it works just as show in crm-114's post above. However, resuming the download must be supported by the server - and not every server does.

This is not a problem of Safari - it is all the same with Firefox or Chrome.

(As a side note, it is also not a problem of Apple's employees being too lazy to do their job - if at all, it is a problem of certain posters being too lazy to use google before blaming others 😉)

I believe this is the issue everyone is having. If CRM-114 and like-minded individuals would like to take a look at this screenshot from my own mac the downloads have frozen and there is no button to resume. Double-clicking on either of these downloads just results in them trying to be opened and failing. A fix without having to restart the two downloads would be appreciated.
