Slow internet after Lion OS X Upgrade

Since I upgraded my new Macbookpro (2,6Ghz) to Mac OS X Lion my (wifi) internet connection is really slow. Is there an update coming out to fix this problem or are there any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

That is a very broad and vague description of a problem. What do you mean that your "internet connection is really slow"? Is slow downloading large files? Is it taking a long time to load webpages? What browser are you using? Is it taking a long time to transfer files over Wi-Fi? Can you be more specific?

I have the same issue with slow internet post Lion install. I have MBA 2010, TC and DSL modem in the basement and use Airport Express to extended my network upstairs. Was getting spotty internet speeds and connection post Lion. After combing through this entire thread and others, here is a summary of what I did to get my system back up to normal (at least for the last 24hrs). Here is what I did

1. Remove my existiing network from my Preferences on MBA

2. Turn off Wifi on MBA

2. Do the PRAM and SMC reset, power down after the resets

3. Unplug Airport Express and do a hard reset and ensure firmware uptodate (7.5.1) and re-link it back to my TC (I am thinkng there is a bug in the Lion update w Airport Express or TC (1st generation)

4. Replug Airport Express, wait for green light

5. Fresh boot up of MBA, open Wifi connection, reestablish network connection and voila, all good. back to 25mps

Was one step away from a reinstall of Lion and failing that a call to AppleCare...and most likely an uninstall back to SL and wait for the update (sigh).

PS let's not talk about the fan noise post-Lion here! Lion is meow not a roar.

I too have noticed a complete slow down when it comes to loading webpages....but if I do a speed test online...the connection is as fast as ever. This with either wifi or over ethernet cable.

This is on my brand new MBP 17" i7 on Lion 10.7.1 My old MBP 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo on Lion 10.7 is loading webpages faster by seconds.

Makes me wonder why I upgraded!!!!!

Can this be down to packet loss?

I notice if i use ping.net...both machines come back with packet loss test failed. What's that about?

Hope this gets sorted soon!

Someone from Apple has to have noticed this, and it's getting to be a huge pain! I could not, for example, register on the VMWare Communities site with Safari. Either Firefox or Chrome worked perfectly, but both browsers are so slow it's downright annoying (I am trying to be as polite as possible, but it is not easy at this stage of the game).

This cannot continue. I have tried several different settings in both browsers, reset NVRAM and PRAM with no improvement whatsoever!

Can anyone else test this and let all of us know if you are experiencing the same problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have same issue. I upgraded a 4GB iMac from 2008 with first lepoard and then Lion. Now internet access is so slow is unusable. I also have a new MacBook Pro i7 and run www.speedtest.net tests on both machines as follows:-

Machine Ping Download Upload

MacBpook 21ms 16.91MBps 1.62 MBps.

iMac 71ms 0.32 MBps 0.15 MBps

Both of these were over the same wireless Time Capsule 2TB router (2 months old). I have tried all the advice on this forum including the memory PRAM and deleted the network settings and creating new network etc. None of which work. So currently the iMac is unusable since the lion upgrade. Disaster. Apple is currrently in the same category as Microsoft on this one. Almost about to reinstall Leopard again. Not happy.

About reinstalling Lion again! That was my next thought after being on the phone with tech support for over an hour to no avail. They are aware of this. What they're doing remains a secret. Some folks who reinstalled Lion as a comletely clean install, had no luck. I don't want to spend more hours than I have to. Thought I was doing my wife a favor when I did her macbook pro. Don't ask! Glad she's understanding. Hooking up direct without wifi creates the same issue so wifi is not the problem. Everyday I keep clicking on updates in hope, again to no avail. They read this, see this, so why can't they fix this. Iphone 4 all over again!

I tried the 8.8.8.8 DNS fix but it didnt work. So still looking at around 0.3 Mbps download speed on a 20 MBps connection. All apple hardware. And worst part is I had to pay to get a CD to upgarde to Lepoard before I could then upgrade to Lion. So paid around 80 USD to make the iMac unusab.e. Brilliant. Apple seriously gone down in my estimation. This is like Windows **** all over again.
