Slow internet after Lion OS X Upgrade

Since I upgraded my new Macbookpro (2,6Ghz) to Mac OS X Lion my (wifi) internet connection is really slow. Is there an update coming out to fix this problem or are there any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

That is a very broad and vague description of a problem. What do you mean that your "internet connection is really slow"? Is slow downloading large files? Is it taking a long time to load webpages? What browser are you using? Is it taking a long time to transfer files over Wi-Fi? Can you be more specific?

I keep reading the posts on this forum and they puzzle me. Mind you, I am using a DLink DIR-825 as an access point and a Alcatel Lucent DSL modem and wireless gateway provided by my ISP. Ever since the upgrade to 10.7.3 and several updates to Firefox and Chrome, I have reset the DNS configuration to use my gateway as the DNS server, instead of using Google's DNS server address. I am no longer experiencing any slow Internet or any problems with Firefox or Chrome in either of my two Macs. I am not using an Apple Airport Express or Extreme to provide wireless access and I am wondering if this is the root cause of the current problems that everyone continues to experience.

Just on the chance that this may be your problem and you missed previous posts, you can try some of the other solutions proposed by members of this forum, such as truning off IP flood detection on the Airport.

I hope this helps.

Hello all,

I have also encountered the slowing down of the wi-fi Internet (all areas) since upgrading to Lion on my MacBook Pro 2011, however, I have noticed another odd fact--it is only slow when I am in the room that houses the modem and router. I also have an iMac in that room that is directly connected to the units, but (supposedly) runs on the wi-fi signal, and it doesn't seem to have the same issue. Also, the Pro is dual partitioned to run Snow Leopard, and it is also slow when in the room. When I take the Pro downstairs, it is lightning fast on both OSs.

I am going to run some "tests" tonight to see if having the iMac and Pro running at the same time but spaced apart has any effect because this is rarely the case...I usualy run them both in the same room or sleep the iMac while working downstairs.

Yesterday on the Pro it took over an hour and a half to download an update to an app that was 114 MB while I was working on the iMac doing something else...that seems like an awful long time considering the same update on the iMac took less than three minutes.

Hello,

Not pertain to exact subject but I have not upgraded to Lion on my MBP and started encountering slow webpage responses on variious sites. I had a good Speedtest, just slow load times.

I replaced my gateway DNS with the 8.8.8.8 and that has made a huge difference.

Not sure what changed to cause my slow responses to begin with.

Thank you for all the advice given

I too had slow internet on my 2011 iMac even after upgrading to Mountain Lion. I tried all the suggestions here, changing the DSN servers, changing browsers, reseting the different types of RAMs, but nothing worked.

I then saw a post about tweaking settings in the router regarding IP Flood control. I did this but it too didn't work. But it did get me thinking about my router. It was old but still worked great for all my other devices including my Windows PC's. Though to continue my trouble shooting I bypassed the router and plugged my iMac directly into the modem (Comcast Cable) and HOLY SH*TBALLS the speed was back! I had forgotten how fast my internet was supposed to be.

So long story even longer, my old Netgear Prosafe router was the problem all along. I replaced it with an Airport Extreme and all is good now with my internet speeds both Mac's and PC's.

Even more strangely, I get slow response on initial page loads (typing a URL into the location and hitting enter) in all browsers on OSX Lion. This occurs no matter which wifi connection I use and also if I use a wired ethernet connection. However, once I'm on a website, going from one page to another works just fine.

However, the Winows 7 on my parallels 8 has no such issues. I am using the default adapter in parallels.
