My macbook air keeps freezing

Everytime I am using my air, it will freeze on me. No matter wether im watching a video or using the internet or microsoft office. It will freeze. It comes up with the "bech ball" loading symbol and then freeze completly. Sometimes it will freeze during startup.

I am aware it is a situation airs, and it maybe a fan issue. How can I find out what the issue is and how can I fix it. Please.

I am SO frustrated. I bought a MacAir in September. Within a month, the audio didn't work and Apple gave me a new MBA. Cool. But now it's freezing up every day. It's incredible. I have no faith it will start or not lock up. You know how long I've had it? about 16 days. Am I really a two-time MBA lemonader? within two months?

I'm thinking I should bite the bullet and buy a MacPro. Believe the 13 inch MBP is about the same price as the 13-inch MBA. but was drawn to MBA because I travel and write and love how light weight the MBA is. The concept works for me, the constant freezing doesn't.

Any advice? Did I mention that I've been using a computer since 1980, and this is my first Mac?

I have a 2011 13-inch MBA i7 with 256 GB SSD, and it freezes once or twice a day. From the above posts, it seems as if this is happening to lots of folks for lots of reasons (no single reason has emerged as the culprit). I guess the Genius Bar should be my next stop. Pretty frustrating.

Anyone care to speculate whether DiskWarrior could help with the freezing problem?

A short update:

I've tried all the suggestions - reset PRAM, reset SMC, don't let the disk (SSD) go to sleep.

Nothing has worked - still freezes. I note that after a freeze, the next TimeMachine backup backs up 25+ GB, instead of the usual 2+ GB - I don't know what that means, but it doesn't inspire confidence.

All in all, I'm sorry I spent so much on what is a very thin and light paperweight.

OK, I think I'm ready to declare victory.

It's been a little over one week since I turned off TimeMachine. I've had one freeze that I'm willing to attribute to something unrelated.

Overall, I've had the computing experience I expected when I purchased this expensive thingy.

I should probably expect everything (including TimeMachine) to work properly, but I'm willing to accept this apparent victory.

I have been experiencing similar freezing problem recently on my MBA 13" (2010, purchased early this year). It has been working smoothly for almost one year, and now the nightmare begins.

Originally the freeze happens frequently when I was watching flash videos (every 10 minutes). Now it happens when I am using other applications as well. I tried to reset SMC and PRAM, and it does not solve the problem.

I have both MacOS and Windows 7 installed with dual boots. Freeze happens in both OS.

I am still strugging on it, and may have to send it to Apple.

mine freezes multiple times a day. Nothing consistent about the freeze. Did new install of Lion, still does it. REset PRAM, SMC etc, still does it. Nothing works except holding the power button and waiting for the next time it freezes. . The system completly freezes, as in none of the apps continue to work. I havent found a fix.

I've been experiencing the same problem on my 256GB i7 Air. My machine freezes once every 2-3 days -- no beachball, no error message, just a sudden and total lack of responsiveness. I don't have anything plugged in besides power and I'm not using any bluetooth input devices.

Another potential data point that I haven't seen in here yet: I suspect it might be related to Google Chrome. I was using nothing but Safari for the first 2 months that I had this machine, and I never saw this problem. It only started occurring once I switched to Chrome. It seems that I always have Chrome in the forefront when the freeze occurs, but I do a lot of stuff in the browser, so that may not matter.

Is anyone who's seeing this problem *not* using Google Chrome at all?
