wifi drops on macbook air 2011

When my Macbook Air awakens from sleep I lose my WiFi connection. I have to restart the machine as well as the WiFi node. What also appears really weird is that my smartphone cannot access the WiFi node when this occurs. Any ideas?

I have the same problem, bought new 13 inch Air, got it last week. Set it up and all appeared fine but now I have to reset my wifi each time I wake it up, have to re-enter password and sometimes it just refuses to connect. All my other systems work fine. I also have an iMac, iPad, 15" Powerbook(New model), and 3 iPhones(family members). All of them work fine but the new Air running Lion doesn't. I hope a fix comes out soon since a laptop without wifi is almost useless, may as well just use the iMac.

I got a MBA 13" base model last week as well and I have the same problems. The wifi doesn't just drop after waking up; it straight up drops when I'm in the middle of something. This problem occurs at least 5 times a day... I lose count because it happens so often. I went out and got a new D-Link wireless N router and the problems still persist. My 3 other laptops, iPad and Android phone work fine, no issues. I had a MBP 13 2011 for a week and it didn't have any problems. I'll take the MBA out to a coffee shop tomorrow to test it. Anyone know if Apple gives software updates to fix problems like this? Seems like a hardware issue. The Samsung Series 9 13" uses the same chipset as the MBA 13 2011, I believe, and users of the Series 9 also have wifi drop / very weak signal problems as well. Their pernament fix was to send in the Series 9 to Samsung and have the wifi card replaced. I don't think Apple will do that. If this keeps occuring for the next few days without a fix, I'm returning it.

Switched my Security settings from WEP to WPA and now it remembers my password. I still have to select my wifi each time but it then connects quickly. It appears that there are a lot of wifi zones showing up here at home, not sure where they are coming from, most likely neighbors.

At work it always picks up the connection right away. But try changing your security settings.

Same issue here but its getting progressively worse. Originally wifi wouldn't restart after sleep, but now when I try to reconnect I get a "connection timeout" error. So I have to turn off my wifi and then turn it on again, and then select the network.

I have a 2011 MBA with Lion preinstalled, and never had this problem for the first month and bit. So it's been a progressively deteriorating issue. Obviously very frustrating.

Hi All,

This has been an ongoing issue, there's a few threads related. Here's the most comprehensive: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2664670?answerId=16140065022#16140065022

There are a several suggestions listed, but I've had no success with any of them. It's still dropping and driving me nuts. Also there seems to be 2 wifi related MBA issues. One is the disconnecting after waking from sleep and the other is random disconnects while using it. Regardless, 10.7.1 did not seem to fix them for anyone.

thanks,

Just a quick heads up - I've been having exactly the same issues (2011 MBA - i5 - Lion). Had a bit of a trawl around and someone suggested resetting the PRAM (i.e. restart holding down command, option and P+R), then in network prefereneces, untick 'Ask to join new networks'.

Did this yesterday, and so far so good. Might be worth a try for anyone else out there.

Cheers,

Rich
