i have macbook pro 17 inch 10.5.4, that won't boot it starts off with flashing question marks

i have macbook pro 17 inch 10.5.4, that won't boot it starts off with flashing question marks , i inserted the installation disc , did the disk utility thing ,it failed to repair ,

could i use disk warrior(is it free?) to repair it ? if not is there anyway i can save my files and then format my mac ?

im sorry i didn't really get you , so whats the first step i should take , boot my macbook through the disc installer , and then how could i set the machine to open theough network system? so i can boot through dw?

and what does command option k do??
