Mac mini with dual monitors

I'm getting ready to purchase a new Mac mini, but I'm confused as to how I would connect my 2 LG L204WT Monitors with DVI connections. Anyone care to explain?

i'm having the dual 90 degree monitor issue - i have two 24" dell monitors, both work just fine in landscape. if i rotate one everything is fine. when i rotate the second monitor the first works fine but the second doesn't refresh and will eventually revert to landscape. has anyone found a fix for this?

i have a 2011 mac mini server with intel hd 3000 graphics. 8gb ram, 512mb shared memory.

I know this isn't really a viable solution for most people, but I needed two portrait monitors, so I exchanged and upgraded my Mac Mini for the one with the 6630 graphics card, and it just worked. I'm still pretty disappointed that I had to shell out an extra $200 to fix this problem though... I don't need fancier graphics, more RAM, or a faster processor, I just needed dual portrait monitors.

i was on the phone with apple support today and they told me that there are orientation sensors in the monitors i'm using - dell u2410s which are "not compatible with the software."

i don't entirely buy this because the exact same monitors worked with an older mac mini and portrait orientation works just fine if i'm only rotating one of the monitors. i need to try it with some different monitors and will report my results.

what monitors are people who are experiencing the problem using?

today i tried resetting pram as well as performing an smc reset (did both twice) with no effect. i also tried using two different nec monitors with the same effect.

the problem monitor is always attached to the htmi port. i've tried two different hdmi cables from different manufacturers as well as a dvi cable with apple's hdmi->dvi adapter.

what's left? drivers? magical software setting? replace the unit? voodoo?

i have been working with apple support, it looks like they narrowed down the issue but i haven't heard back in a while. here's a quote from the guy who's been fielding the issue:

"I've heard back from engineering, they were requesting the info to make sure this was the issue they were looking at. Currently we are working on the issue. Keep an eye on software updates, there should be a firmware or regular software update to address this in the near future."

so in theory the problem is known and will be fixed but i have no timeframe.

I'm having the exact same issue with the base Mac Mini 2011 running 10.7.3 (purchased today). I'm using dual Dell U2411s. One is connected via a mini-display port to display port cable, the other is via the HDMI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable. The HDMI monitor freezes its state if both monitors are rotated to portrait (90 degrees).

I've seen some reports that playing with the order you rotate monitors or the resolutions can potentially fix the issue, but I haven't had any luck in my unscientific settings tinkering.

Hi Tman1220,

I'm having the same issues here with a Mac Mini mid 2011 with 2.3 GHz i5 and the 6630 Radeon 256MB card.

I've connected two LG Flatron E2290 (the new super thin LED's) and one screen is fuzzy text with pixelation and colors are somewhat off in pictures.

So, actually Apple support sent me your thread, but I'm confused to what you mean by "the mini display adapter Tibet"? What is this adapter and is it going to a DVI connection to your second monitor?

I appreciate your help with this. Thanks.

Carlos
