COFFEE SPILT ON MY MACBOOK AIR

My mum just accidentally spilt coffee on the keyboard of her macbook air and it immediately shut down. We tipped it up so that as much of the coffee would drip out as possible. I looked on my computer online as to what to do and it said take it apart and air it out but we don't have the tools to take the back off so i suggested putting it over our vents to air it out. We also put a bag of rice underneath as some people said that this draws the moisture out but it was coffee so i don't know if this would work. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I tried booking an appointment with the genius bar but there isn't one until tomorrow. I don't know whether it would be better to air it out for longer and then take it to the apple store or if it would be best to take it straight away. Thanks for your help. The laptop is also a couple of months old, it was brought in December in England as we just moved out here. Thanks

This is a serious question - was there cream and or sugar in the coffee?

The sugar as this dries would kind of coat thing which longer term makes it a challenge to remove I would think.

I've heard of the computer working if it is truely, completely dry. Blow a fan on it for a couple days. If you turn it back on and there is still moisture inside that lessens the possibility of it working for sure.

Sorry I'm not much help here, but here's hoping for the best.

I had complained here about my macbook air screen costing so much to replace. I wanted to update this. I later took my air which had applecare to an apple store. I was first told they had dropped the screen replacement price down to 470 I think it was. This alone pleased me and I considered for a moment whether or not to to do this. Like I told the guy, I had two computers at that point. He then looked over the computer and my account. He said I clearly was a good customer and the computer was clearly taken good care of otherwise since he saw no scratches what so ever. He then said they would replace the screen for free, but I would have to drive back in about ten days to pick it up. I said that was no trouble Bc I came to town frequently anyway. I defintitely felt appreciated as a customer!

You could try asking again with a new guy if there was any other options, like a good deal on a refurb or something. If you are humble and nice and he is having a good day he might offer you something which you can more than live with. I will say I have a neice who destroyed her computer and they offered no help what so ever. I believe her computer looked scratched and abused, at least I didn't think she took care of it. I think they won't help anyone to much who has banged up and scratched their computers. This may not be you, but this made since to me.

I just thought I would add that, and good luck. It defeintiely would not be fun to be out so much money so quickly. We all spill drinks, and this why I put mine in a droor in my desk, and roll back to drink from it. With old computers I had not always done this, but my newest is very expensive.

Very hard to swallow. Just plead humbly for any kind of help or option, and see what happens! It can't hurt to try again!!

Hi All,

5 minutes ago my GF spilled the coffee on the table and I had some coffee under my computer, I cleaned the bottom part of my brand new Mac air and sit on the couch, 2 minutes later I realized that my keyboard and mouse is not working so I shut down my Mac and coffee was spilling from the back part, apparently coffee got my Mac from behind.

I put some rice in between the keyword and screen and put my Mac under the mild sun on my room. I don't know what will happen but I will keep you guys updated, hope it works, if not I am loosing a lot of work and personal data.

Pretty stressed right now.

I had a similiar problem.. Apple authorized repair place quoted me over 1000 USD to fix.. And after 2 months the computer was still not fixed.. In the end I took it to a little 'hole in the wall' shop and asked the guy to take the hard drive out..He said let me try and fix it first.. With a toothbrush and liquid soap he super cleaned the item and fixed it.. All for around 250 dollars...If no luck consider sending here to the the Philippines to give a go.. I can assist if ya like.
