iPhone 4 stuck in headphone mode?

A big long suck just worked for me. No nasties came out but it fixed it.😀

Make sure you make a good seal around the top of the phone and suck and try not to dribble! 😉

Sucking the air out worked instantly!!! It made my day :)

The dryer one worked for me! Not sucking the air out myself. Are they doing about this?! I should not be resorting to my hair dryer to fix my phone.

Yeah it's the heat from the game draining the battery and the charger continuing to feed it. If you use an iPad charger you will get the result even faster.

The bottom line is this..

There is moisture in the socket which is bridging the circuit and causing it to go into headphone mode.

A Vacuum worked for me instantly but heat will evaporate any moisture over enough time.

I've actually put mine in the oven at 170 degrees with the door cracked and it worked wonders. (Phone was submurged in a hot tub for about 8 seconds.)

The construct of these is really unbelieveable compared to a lot of other phones. Even the new 5S is crap compared to the mighty durable 4.

I could have gotten a gold 5S for free through my job and I got another 4 because they are heavier and more solid.

These two things sold me on the phone when it first arrived:

1)Aircraft aluminum frame

2)pilot safety glass on BOTH sides.

Tried everything out there this morning to try and fix this, least effective was the tourettes fiti just had when the q tip trick didn't work. Fixed it just now by sucking really hard over the jack socket. You do need to make a solid seal a suck like you're trying to get an orange through a hose!

setting>sounds>ringtones>change ringtone.

Unbelievable after almost asphixiating myself I finally sucked it right and the ringer returned!

I had this happen to me today. Put my blow dryer on it for about 30 seconds and it worked, then went out again in two minutes. Blow dried it again, now it's fixed. Weird, I must have gotten moisture in it today while scraping the snow off my car!

My iPad sound wasn't working as it was stuck in headphone mode due to moisture. I used a blow dryer first off and it worked for about 5 minutes but then returned to headphone mode.

I then thought if I out something in the jack that would soak everything up and kind of mop up the moisture would work. As stupid as this may sound I folded a hair the in 2 and put in there and took it out and BAM! The hairtye surely mopped it up and it was working again.

I know it sounds stupid but that was the last thing I could think of and it worked. Good luck and I hope it helps.

I tried the hair dryer - sucking on the end - didn't work for me. Tried a Q-tip - took most of the Cotten off and twirled it around a few times - it works now - thanks all.

I used the vacuum cleaner to suck out whatever was inside the jack port.

Worked like a charm...after 2 good sessions of vacuuming !!! 😉

Tried all the physical fixes, but nothing worked. I suspect there are multiple reasons for the phone to get stuck in headphones mode, so different solutions for different causes. I'm convinced mine is a software problem, but I haven't pinpointed the trigger yet. However, I have (temporarily) solved the problem the same way each of the three times it happened. It's six steps: 1: start a song 2: plug in headphones 3: call your phone from another line 4: answer the call 5: unplug the headphones 6: end the call. Voila! Lots of trial and error that I hope someone else can take advantage of. And if I pinpoint the trigger before I get a new phone, I'll post back. Good luck!

i had this problem with my iphone 5s also.. i was play in the snow and somehow i guess it got wet... so i tried to restored it... and then it was working again after that until i plug headphone in... then the problem got back.. until i found this page so i tried to plug it in and out for many times... doesnt work...

so i tried to suck the air out.... for many times for 1-5 first times it doesnt work... until a while and it's working now! thx guys!

I had this problem after getting a little bit of water inside the headphone jack and tried plugging and unplugging the headphones as instructed, but that didn't do the trick. Sucking in the headphone jack a few times worked like a charm! I suppose it draws the moisture out of the jack enough to get it out of headphone mode. Thanks for the tip!

I have had the same problem with an IPHONE 4. Tried everything on the forum with no success. Then just gently stuck a pin into the jack point on the phone, waggled it gently for about one second and problem solved immediately.
