Tascam US-800 and Lion

I bought a Tascam US-800 audio/MIDI interface to replace the US-122 that quit working when I installed Lion (it only has 32-bit drivers).

I'm using it with Garageband. It works fine when I first start up/restart the computer, but when I go back to it after a time, it doesn't work. Neither the MIDI nor audio work, though the US-800 shows up both in System preferences and GB prefs. The signal light for the audio channel I'm using lights up, so the US-800 is getting signal, but it does not seem to be passing it on. If I unplug the USB and plug it back in, the US-800 disappears from both prefs (after a warning from GB) and doesn't return until a complete system restart.

Anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts on resolving it?

Went with a MOTU Audio Express. It's worked flawlessly. Not as many inputs as the US-800, but it's been good. It also cost about twice as much, though, so if I could have made the US-800 work so easily, well, that would have been nice.

Oh, well. Glad you figured it out. Have you tried it with Mountain Lion yet?

I returned the TASCAM and went with Focusrite, Saffure Pro 14 for $199.99.

So glad to be done with TASCAM.

Their tech support actually told me to return it since they have no plans to do anything about their driver.

The US-800 works fine on Mac OSX Lion. Make sure you have the latest driver installed, which is version 1.0.9.

If the computer goes to sleep when the computer awakes unplug and replug the Tascam and it should work fine.

I just dowloaded mountain lion yesterday and am actually have issues with my version of logic studio (9.1.7). When I open the app, it is open, but won't open and files. And then it can't be closed. Wrong forum, but just mentioning it anyway.

Ahh, there is some of that quality TASCAM support, "the driver works fine".

ha ha ha.

Looks like they did update the driver this past April though. It only took them 2 1/2 years.

Mlars I have held off on celebrating until I knew for certain this worked. Amazingly it seems to do so. I am running 10.7.4 and using GarageBand to record a short daily radio segment. For two weeks now I have simply plugged in the US-800 and started GarageBand. All 8 tracks are there and everything seems to work. I DO NOT start the US-800 panel. If I do that, all my problems return.

My memory doesn't recall if I actually installed drivers for the US-800?? All I remember is trying to use the panel software. I also have not tried this with other audio software. My main use of the US-800 is a short radio segment.

I'm thrilled this seems to work. I wonder if I dare try to upgrade to Mountain Lion???

Great news. I updated to Mountain Lion and everything is working fine. I had some issues with Logic at first and honestly I'm not sure how I figured it out, but now everything is smooth. The tascam still has the sleep issue, but everytime I unplug and plug back in it is always recognized by my cpu running os x ML. Good luck if you decide to upgrade!

DUDE!! I had all the same problems with the 800 as everyone else. am tossed in into the corner and have been looking for a replacement that I can afford.

BUT - I'm going to try uninstalling all the drivers and see if it works. I'm running Mountain Lion on a mid 2010 Mac Pro with Pro Tools 10.

If this works, it saves me not only the money but a ton of grief. And it DID sound great when it worked, so here goes....tomorrow.....thisw enough excitment for one night! 🙂

So after months and months of frustration and blinking lights, I realized that the problem with my Tascam US-800 was that the power adapter that came with it gave it either too much power or too little power.

I swapped it with a PSP power adapter and it has worked fine ever since!
