Can I return an app I bought and don't like? If so, how? Thanks.

You can read the terms and conditions of Apple's App store here.

http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#GIFTS

You don't have to read too far down to see that all sales are final. You can try and plead your case with Apple, but the terms do state that all sales are final - which in plain terms means - no refunds.

No store that I have ever bought software in - whether it be a brick and mortar store - on an online store allows you to return software for a refund - if you have opened the package and used the software. In the event that the CD or DVD itself was faulty, all they will offer is a replacement - not a refund.

Once you have downloaded the app and used it - you have in effect - "opened the package and used the software."

When you agreed to the terms of the App Store - which you had to do in order to buy from the store - you agreed to the "all sales are final" clause.

Some apps have free trial versions that don't include all of the features of the paid apps but allow you to "test" the app and see if you like it enough to buy it. That is why these types of apps are available. But the App Store does not offer a "try it and if you don't like it you can return it" offer feature.

Removing it is very easy. Tap and hold down on the app icon until it begins to wiggle, then tap the X that appears in the corner to delete the app from the iPad.

If you have synced the app to iTunes it will still be in the iTunes library so if you want to delete it from there - launch iTunes on your computer and click on - apps - under the library heading. Find the app in the window on the right and right click on the name of the app - or on the icon - and select delete. You can always download it again at no charge if you change your mind at a later date.

I apologize for coming off a little harsh. So many users have asked the same question as you and I was expecting the same "why can't I get my money back" response that most people have. I jumped the gun and you do understand the situation - you would be amazed at how many people get upset because they can't get a refund.

Lastly - have you tried restarting the iPad as a fix for why the app takes so long to load. Maybe a simple restart - along with closing other apps may do the trick for you and allow the app to load more quickly. You may find that you actually like the app and will want to keep it.

Turning the iPad off and turning it on again is restarting. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut down. Press and hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to power up again.....yes - that is restarting. It works wonders sometimes.

You can also try resetting the iPad if you want to. I do this once in a while just to clear the iPads memory. Hold down on the sleep button and home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignoring the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Both the restart and reset are basic iPad troubleshooting steps and neither is harmful and will not cause any loss of apps, data or anything else.

As I mentioned closing apps may help as well - double tap the home button to bring up the task bar in which all of the recent apps appear. Tap and hold down on one of the icons until they all wiggle- tap the minus signs in the upper left corner of the icons to close the apps.

I guess all of this "advice" is subjective. Many people never shut their iPads off or close apps, since the iPad is supposed to handle the memory issues on it's own and it will "shut down" whatever is going on in the background if it needs the memory to perform another task, but I have apps crash on me from time to time or the device becomes sluggish so I practice these three steps with some frequency and I seem to have better success when I do so.

I'm glad I could provide some help to you.

The scariest thing that I've done to this point was restoring my iPad from my backup. I read about it many times, and it is a recommended troubleshooting step, but I was still reluctant. Anyway, it went off without a hitch.

Remember that you can always download a paid app again. You only pay for it one time and you can download it to all of your iDevices - no matter how many devices you have. As long as you download using the same Apple ID and iTunes account you can download over and over and over .....

Actually it is great point to make. Returning apps make sense in such a controlled environment as the App Store.

Most apps are poorly described, lite versions are either not always available or not enough and especially the complex (and therefore more expensive apps) can be very disappointing ... including Keynote! 😝

It wold be good to have a time-window to return the apps, or a demo thing for few days or something like that. This always existed with computer softwares ... why not on the App Store?

Can I return an app I bought and don't like? If so, how? Thanks.
