Mac OX X Lion freeze after wake-up

Hello,

I've installed Lion for one week. Runs fine except when waking up from "sleep" mode. (NL: sluimer) I can't determine what causes this behaviour. Usually Chrome, Mail (2nd desktop) and Parallels Desktop are running.

Also I had once a freeze when the machine was unused for 15min. Activating resulted in a freeze. Button on the back used for off and on.

Please help me solving this issue.

Mine was definetely fixed by disabling virus scanning on my backup drive that was being used by Time Machine. I first just disabled automatic Time Machine backups. The problem went away. I then turned backups back on and removed the backup drive from the list of drives to check for viruses in Sophos. It has been several weeks now and I have not had a hang. Previously, I was getting a hang every day when I woke my machine back up after a night of sleeping.

I have a MacBook Pro 2010 with Lion that also freezes after coming out of standby. It seems to only occur when I have it connected to an external monitor (essentially dual monitor) and my Time Machine backup. I am playing with some of the Energy Saving options to see if that helps.

I also have Symantec Endpoint Protection for anti-virus protection. This is required solution provided by they company I work for.

I would love to see a fix for this.

I had this problem and solved it by disabling virus scanning on my time machine backup disk. To diagnose it, disable automated time machine backups and see if the freeze problem goes away. Once you confirm that, then you need to configure Symantec to stop scanning your time machine disk. The issue for me was that time machine automated backup and symantec were competing for access to the drive while the machine was sleeping. This happened virtually every morning when I woke up my machine.

I have a MBP early 2011 and TB display plus LaCie d2-quad external disk for backup via Firewire 800. Like others, the system froze after sleeping, regardless of whether backup was plugged in directly to MBP or via TB display and required power cycling to re-start. Setting Sophos anti-virus to NOT scan the backup drive solved the problem. There doesn't seem to be any reason to need to run anti-virus on the back-up since any problems should be fixed before backing up. Thanks to all for the fix info!

Wow, so much grief, so many possible fixes. Like the three blind men and the elephant.

Anyway, let me add to the confusion.

Late 2007 24" iMac now running OSX 10.7.3.

I went through many of the same attempted fixes. Blamed Chrome so switched to every other browser I could find, but still froze. Blamed Little Snitch so shut that down, but still froze. Blamed Snow Leopard so unwillingly upgraded to Lion, but still froze. Blamed Magic Mouse, so switched to a wired mouse, but still froze. Yadda, yadda, yadda...

Several days ago, I doubled my memory to 4GB. That _may_ have done the trick. No freezes since.

Of course, as soon as I post this, it'll sleep and freeze because Apple packs a little Freeze Gremlin inside every machine it ships.

I'm having a similar problem - freezing when I open it up. I have the 2011 MBP, and it's a relatively fresh install. I'd just used Migrate on it and installed updates to Lion, but now it's freezing when I first open it up. It's very frustrating, since my old Mac works fine and there's less stuff installed on the new one. Not sure what the problem is, so any insight would be much appreciated.

I had the etch a sketch screen problem re appearing every so often prior to updating to 10.3.7 the other week, I'd ring Apple Care and they would go through throwing out various sets of files and it would behave for a bit and then the problem would reappear.

Since the latest updates from 10.3.7 now I just have a total freeze on sleep and this is unacceptable.

Have a 2011 27" imac. No virus software. Time Machine on automated backups. Haven't rung Apple Care yet this time round. But will have to do on Monday, I guess as no one seems to have a fix for this. If it is a memory issue, why does it only manifest itself on sleep? I am way out of my depth here, my old imac ran solid as a rock, never froze, this is like the bad old days....
