Many thanks for recommending Sparrow. Mail has given me problems on a July 2011 Macair and MacMini ever since the Lion install - mainly just incredibly slow uploading of mail sometimes taking hours after the same mail uploads to my iphone or gmail - and Sparrow works like a charm and is clearly the app Lion Mail sought to copy but so miserably failed, like so much else in the Mac software drawer sine July 2011. I have already started to think about moving on from Lion to Linux when my current Macs are slowing down (though in some departments they never got up to the promised speed including Mail). Now all I need is an app to get my MacAir reliably to hook up with my wifi!

Was running it smoothly on my 17' MBPro I7 8GB Mem and 512 GB SSD, so guess pretty fast system yet since a week, mail sloooooow at startup. Rainbow spinning wheel. ***?

Tried many things: Fixing all kinds of disk stuff, Re-indexing Mails, etc, nothing works.

Yep Sparrow rules.

Tried to go to ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book/ but nowhere to be found on my mac (yes I'm running Lion)

So couldn't test that one

Anyway, Apple, You're slacking...

I have been experiencing the same as everyone else and had not found a 100% fix, but I just went in and deleted my Daylite app and my mail client went back to normal speeds.

I'm no guru, but maybe an older app you may have running that uses the calendar and mail as accessories is the issue.

So far (fingers crossed) it has worked for me. Please respond and let me know if anyone gets any value from this.

Thanks
