I just sent an email reply with an Word document attachment. Here's how I did it:
- emailed the file to myself in another email
- forward the email (including the attachment)
- press and hold the Word doc icon.
- Copy
- cancel forwarded email
- go to email I need to reply to
- reply
- paste attachment
- send
Hope this helps
I just recieved an iPhone from my company becuase my Droid died after 2+ years of use. Well, this issue is really pathetic, and attaching files from my Droid was soooooooooo easy and seamless. This is totally unprofessional of Apple. Very unimpressed with this iPhone 5c
Just use the Microsoft outlook app for iphone.
This is evidently not a finish product in my opinion, can’t really justify why the function to attach a file to a reply isn’t available in today’s
tech world?
Very unfulfilled...
Apple's Mail app cannot do it (except with photos and videos in iPad's Photos app) but Google's Gmail app can, with a little help from Google Drive. Install and login to Gmail (https://appsto.re/my/iRBmz.i) & Google Drive (https://appsto.re/my/Z2yrE.i) apps on your iPad. Save/upload your files from your third-party apps to Google Drive. A lot of apps allow saving directly to Google Drive eg TouchDraw, CamScanner etc which I use a lot. Apple's Pages app can 'Send a Copy' to Google Drive (also to Box, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive etc).
In Gmail,
1- Open your received email;
2- Tap Reply;
3- Tap Attach (paperclip icon);
4- Select 'Insert from Drive';
5- Navigate to and select file(s) to be attached from your My Drive, and
6- Send...
Not sure if it is the real file that is attached or just a link, looks like just a link. Might work too with Microsoft Outlook app in combination with OneDrive but I have not tried yet. Apple should make attaching ANY files to email replies work, at least, between Apple Mail and iCloud. Better still between Apple Mail and a few well known cloud storage such as Box, Dropbox (https://db.tt/10Ffumpm), Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
Of course you can attach anything from iCloud Drive using the mail app.
Anil,
Unless I missed something, I don't think that is possible. In Apple's Mail app on iOS, I cannot find any way to attach files to an already opened email msg, let alone attaching from iCloud, be it for a new email msg or a reply email. Attaching can only be done by opening the file to be attached in its own app (eg opening a word processor file from inside Pages or a spreadsheet from inside Numbers) & send the email from there, not from inside the Mail app, unless you use Google's Gmail app which can attach files from Google Drive.
In Apple's Mail app, you can only attach photos & videos from Photos app (by double-tapping or tap+hold on the msg body of the email).
GGood work roman!
Does anyone have an update? This is 1 of 2 reasons why for my work needs as an executive, I sold my iphone 6s (i had iphone6, iphone 5s, iphone 5, iphone 4 and waited as long as I could working without this feature) for a Samsung S7. Is there an app that will allow attachment of documents (not pics), in a reply or forwarding chain of emails as a work around?
Amazing that so many years have passed and Apple still has no interest to accommodate this basic business need that so many people in business who rely on their phone email to perform this task have agreed with me. Much like the horrible and limited Alarm options in the Scheduler, Apple still seems to be more about developing gimmicks for teenagers than filling to void of satisfying basic functionality that Android has provider for many years. If they were to enhance focus in these areas to fill these simple needs, even more would be in or more completely in the Apple Eco..
I am using iPhone 6s and in year 2016 too , this problem does not seem solved.
I must reply the email with my document attached. Where's the solution?
I will throw my iPhone to dust bin if this minor feature could not be provided by Apple. And, I will never use Apple product again.
There is a solution in iOS 10, though it may have been there before.
If you do a long tap in the email body, a number of options are available including "Insert Photo or Video" and "Add Attachment":
By default, selecting "Add Attachment" appears to offer the option to import from Numbers or Pages, however if you look at the top of the dialog box you will see it is actually showing you your iCloud Drive:
Consequently, if you save to your iCloud Drive the file you want to attach then you can navigate to and select it from within this dialog box.
Further, if you tap on Locations in the top left of the dialog box you will discover that, depending on the apps you have installed, you can also navigate within, for example, Dropbox, FileBrowser, One Drive, Google Drive:
Hope that helps.
I agree with scott
