I backed up my domain file before I upgraded to LION. I then copied the domain file to the desktop after upgrading to LION. I click on it and it launches iWeb, but with none of my sites!

The domain file on the desktop and has the name BLDocumentTypeNativeDomain1x. There is no iWeb folder in Application support, no domain file! Where did they put the domain file in LION????? I have 4 large websites in this DOmain file and I DON'T want to have to redo all of them! HELP!

iWeb is not going anywhere- it is an app and you can still use it - it works with Lion and Snow Leopard.

Apple is not getting rid of it - possibly no support, but that does not mean that you can't use it any more. You can, so you need do nothing as far as that is concerned. You only need to find new hosting - it is MobileMe that won't be there any longer once it is replaced by iCloud - find new hosting and you can still use iWeb with it without a problem. Just remember to choose Linux hosting and not Windows.

Hi

Wyodor was asking you to please turn off your cap lock button. And in answer to your question, the real answer is NO. There are some alternatives:

Sandvox from Karelia software

http://www.karelia.com/

And RapidWeaver from RealMacSoftware

http://www.realmacsoftware.com/

but neither has exactly the same features with the the versitility and ease of use of iWeb.

I feel like I'm on a ferris wheel with iWeb. On switching over from one hard drive to a new one everything worked fine until today when iWeb opens as it would for the first time. I have saved "My iWeb website" on the desktop in order to make it easier to transfer back. Ha! Reading the posts led me to using Go to navigate to the proper place where the Domain is stored. Unfortunately it is the starting blankone. I tried dragging individual and separate parts from my desktop, as well as draggomg the Domain to the trash, but it never replaces the original. Things that are stored on my backup are "assets.http/--.plist", "decalsbykoz.com", and "index.html". Another unfortunate thing is that I wiped my old hard drive information as well as my Time Machine drive. Going to my first Time Machine entry brings up the crappy Domain so that is out.

Do you have any things you haven't said a thousand times before?

this is the solution i worked out with an apple tech! It worked for me

After 2 hours on the phone with Apple Express tech the problem is solved.

Go to Users/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist and drag file to trash. Also delete com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile. Empty trash.

Open iweb, save a page. Close iweb. Open ~Library/Application Support/iweb/Domain. Drag Domain to trash. Empty trash. Put the Domain file from thumb drive backup in iWeb folder.

Launch iWeb and all the web sites that were backed up are there!!!!!

Iweb is still such a great intuitive wed design tool.
i have quite a few sites made in it - tweaked SEO and hosted on a domain host. site maps, etc all made too

Frankly it scares me that upgrading can scupper iweb.

I dont know how to get started in word press, and dont want to remake all my sites again on templated Word Press blog style sheets!

Any adivce on this?

I have backed up my iweb domain, but wonder if anything goes wrong, can i just drag back the HTML files from domain via FTP to my mac and into iweb?

ie - www.hunterbailey.co.uk is a site I made in iweb.

iWeb has no import facility, so no you can't just drag your html files back into iWeb - it can't open them.

It is your domain.sites file that you need to back up and keep because you need this for altering any data in iWeb.

WordPress is very easy to use and you can do a lot with it, especially if you have a host such as GoDaddy or something similiar - you can install it directly on your server and you can do more with plugins etc., and you can change the templates without altering css at all.

Also, if you type your url like this: http://www.hunterbailey.co.uk, you create a link which saves time.

Thanks Ethmoid

I only use iweb to design a site, then export it and FTP it to a domain host www.123-reg.com.

Im wondering if Word press allows me to design, then export the same way?

I have not found time to even attempt learning wordpress.

Is there a absolute beginners guide to wordpress you could recommend i read?

I know it has many more additions and interesting facets to it now.
