How to Filter Spotlight/Search by Contents/File Name?

In Snow Leopard, the Search box in Finder allowed you to filter your search by File Name. This was handy, for example, if you were searching for a file that ended in .PSD and you were not just looking for a file that contained the text string "PSD" in it. Thi seems to have been removed in Lion. Is there a workaround?

Also, it is no longer to sort a Search by Column (for example, "Date Created" or "Kind"). What happend to that? Hopefully I'm just missing something...

You mean like this:

User uploaded file

or this:

User uploaded file

or this:

User uploaded file

You can get the File Extension criteria by choosing Other and picking it from the list. If you use it often, select the checkbox next to the entry in the list which will place it in the popup menu.

The sort functions are the same as for all Finder windows in Lion. The arrangement button will arrange items by the particular grouping. You can also set the sort order within that arrangement by option-clicking the arrangement menu. If you just want to sort, set the Arrangement to None and use List View or pick a sort option by option-clicking the arrangement button.

My searching/work flow is the same. Go to Spotlight to search, then Show All In Finder.

Which opens a finder window showing EVERYTHING, filename,contents...

Which is poorly implemented in Lion without a FILENAME Button.

If you add a space to the finder window search, you'll get the popups option for FILENAME

Clicking the + next to Save makes you fiddle with a new search popup Type and forces you to retype the search. Not very "apple" like.

My SOLUTION today is in Spotlight to force a filename search.

name: what you want

then when you Show All in Finder, it will show only Filename in the Search window's results.

This seems easier to remember and do with a faster result.

Apple overthought the search features and it seems to not work seamlessly between Spotlight and Finder Searches. Having a FILENAME Button was the simple "Apple" solution.

It's neat you can search contents, but I suspect searching for FILENAME is Far more Common.

NOW it's harder to do.

Another idea is when the search/finder window is active try setting the finder View Options. There you can specify to sort by Date Modified, which might help sort out the newer things, from the odd older stuff.

As noted by leftcoastmichael the feature at the top of your image (showing the filename in a dropdown window) does not work with the general spotlight "Show all in Finder", and the later two solutions are too cumbersome, that is, in relation to the simple selection by "contents" or by "name". I have thousands of pdf files that I have inserted tags directly into the file name; my own system, but very effective and very rapid with the old Spotlight using selection by "name". I do use other methods, including entering tags into spotlight comments (sometimes using nonce words that are unique tags). Perhaps there is an easy way to find files by names by selecting addtional filters, but, if I must do this, I will use HoudaSpot or something equivalent. For now, I have abandoned Spotlight as a useful tool. Whether these are bugs or features, I can't tell. For smaller scale searches for pdf files, I am using the Adobe Reader search feature, but it is slow.

Works, but "filename" and "any" so not appear to be not implemented in "Show in Finder" using Spotlight. Opening, say, Houdaspot, is just as easy as opening a finder window and affods the contents and name options and others. Moreover, in the Finder window, the "Fiilename" option disappears if you move cursor off the search window and it does not come back! Of course, you can subsequently add in the additional search criteria, but it was soooooo simple in SL. As David Pogue says, "Simplicity sells".
