Mid-2011 13" Macbook Air Trackpad problem.

I have a new mid-2011 13" MBA and have noticed the trackpad is noticeably less smooth when scrolling than the one on my 13" MBP. Is this a unique problem with mine or one that others have seen? Any suggestions? I've tried repairing the permissions and resetting the PRAM/NVRAM with no change.

Mine drove me mad too - my first Apple and so disappointed. Apple staff blamed me (using the trackpad incorrectly) until it started to go wrong for them too.

They ran an external hard drive through the machine to prove it was the trackpad rather than the software. It took about 10 days for a repair.

Apple need to acknowledge that they have a real problem here.

Good luck - there's enough evidence now on the forums that they need to wake up to the issue.

I have the same accidential clicks here after the system is running for about an hour. I also think that it is a heat related problem.

I went to the nearest Apple Service Provider 2 times. Each time they told me the trackpad was replaced. But the accidential clicks always reappeared.

You should always make the returned Macbook heat up for a while when testing!

Now I sent this macbook air in for a total of 30 days without any relief.

I called the Apple Support in Ireland but they keep telling me that a replace of my macbook is no option but they told me that I'm free to go to other Apple Service Providers - they were suggesting that some ASPs are better than others in solving problems.

Furthermore he was offering me to enhance my warranty period by buying the apple care protection plan. I'm just wondering if I now can't rely on the warranty, should I pay more for it?!

The guy on the phone had a nice answer when I asked for his boss to file a complaint: he has no boss and no one he reports to. This must be Mr. Cook himself.

I can't believe that the support for this widespread problem is so bad and that apple is so picky about exchanging the whole MacBook even if they have a severe quality problem.

I've had this same issue with my 2011 MacBook Air 11"

Often I'll be using the trackpad as usual, with Tap-To-Click not enabled in the settigns, and my trackpad register clicks even if I don't depress the button but simply have my finger on it. I'll also be scrolling, and I'll get text begin to highlight as if I'm clicking and dragging, but I'm not. Sometimes I can't even scroll with two fingers, and images and things will begin dragging to places on the desktop as if I have the button pressed down all the way, but I don't.

I set up a Genius appiontment about three weeks ago and went, but the Apple Genius couldn't replicate the issue, and it did happen twice while i was uing it, but he blamed me for the issue and said that I was probably clicking the button but couldn't tell if I was or not. I've noticed that it often happens when I'm using it on my bed, and I think it has to do with the case not being absolutely flat and the MacBook Air being too thin to function properly, so when I get the issue, I always have to sort of move the Air around, and put some pressure all around the machine to try to get it to "set" or something.

But this issue also occurs almost daily when I use the machine in class on a desk on a flat surface. So I don't know why my $1,500 machine isn't functioning properly. And I'm very upset that Apple won't do a thing about fixing it, even if it's still under warranty! That's what a warranty is for, and they're just looking the other way. I've also called the Apple support line since I was within the 90 days, and they couldn't help me either.

I'd love to tighten the screws (mine is a little creaky too) but I am in Beirut and I have no idea where I'd find one of their proprietary screwdrivers.. I'll go poking around and see if that fixes it. The problem just appeared out of nowhere. The clicking mechanism is squeezed into the thinnest part of the machine, so I could see how a little creakiness could screw it up (ha ha ha pun intended). I sort of thought maybe it was a weather-realted issue, since it popped up when I arrived here. It's dustier here, and more humid.
