Outlook 2011 for Mac: Lost all emails

Hello,

I installed Microsoft 2011 for Mac two months ago and I was quite happy with that. Ok, I must say that Outlook often pops up with "Outlook 2011 has encountered a problem and needs to close". This is annoying, but when Outlook is re-opened all runs smoothly. I understand this is a problem with Microsoft, rather than with Mac, so I live with the idea.

The problem here is that when I have opened my Outlook this morning, to my great surprise, I have found out that all my emails have disappeared: nothing in my Inbox, no folders, no Archive, no contacts, no task list, no accounts set... Nothing! Outlook appears as if it is the first time it is used.

As far as I recall, I didn't do anything weird yesterday before shutting down. Luckily, I have a backup dated 17th July (no Archive folders, though), so I have lost just 2 weeks of emails (I'm currently importing that) but still, I would like to know what has happened to my emails and why.

Anyone can help, please?

Thank you for your consideration and for your help.

Microsoft Office for Mac users help answer your questions on the Microsoft forums. Just because it's a Microsoft forum doesn't mean you aren't getting help from a Mac user.

BTW, if you move the Microsoft User Data folder out of Documents, Entourage and Outlook will create a new folder with a blank Identity. You need to move your data back.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the community spirit. In light of "stick up their butts" like Templeton, everyone else seemed to flow right around and help fix the original problem. I had similar issues, but slightly different. However, these solutions and pointers eventually helped me out too.

I believe that Mac users on these mac forums are more than capable in helping with OSX related problems, regardless of Microsoft or other products. Clearly, these people were not asking for Microsoft related help, just where the heck their files went.

Thanks so much!

Mac users are certainly capable of answering OSx related questions. But this thread is about Outlook, a Microsoft product. The issue has nothing to do with Apple or OSx. The best and fastest way to get the best answer for a microsoft product issue is in the forums created and supported for answering Office issues. Templeton provided the best response to the original poster, and to subsequent posters' questions about Outlook, a Microsoft product.

some people are just jerks. i just had this problem. here is the solution:

documents folder: make sure you didn't move your Microsoft User Data folder. if you did, move it back.

restart outlook holding the command key. Select an identity when prompted - select the most recent. click rebuild. this should rebuild everything you had and everything will be back to where it's supposed to be. hope this helps!
