What is the official word about webobjects?

What is the official word about webobjects?

All information regarding WebObjects has departet the Apple web sites. Documentation states "deprecated". The community still iterates "all is fine and will go on", yet I don't see any sign for that.

The migration PDF states:

WebObjects and Frameworks

Lion Server does not support WebObjects. You can still save your v10.5.8 WebObjects applications and frameworks located in:

Â /Library/WebObjects/ Â /System/Library/WebObjects/

So, what is the OFFICIAL statement regarding the future of WebObjects. If it is dropped and all references pulled from the websites and the info in developper sites reads "deprecated", why are there so many WOcommunity folks who say "all is fine"?

I am currently evaluating the use of WebObjects, but the way Apple informs is a pretty strong no go.

Please shed some light on that, if you can.

You can use it all you want don't ask Apple any questions you are on your own.

Well, thanks for your answer. This means there is no sensible way to argue why anyone wants to use webobjects these days. A product that has no support is basically EOL, regardless of how heavy the developper uses it for its own purposes. If Apple doesn't developp it anymore (officially), then sadly, I can't find arguments to convince anyone in my company to use that nice technology.

sigh. xserve dead... webobjects dead... long live the iConsumer and the rest needs to go to another platform...

As far as I am aware Apple still use webobjects to power their own web store, so they must be doing some ongoing development for it.

-- Yep confirmed the Apple web store still uses WebObjects, the third-party 'WebHelpDesk' application is also written in WebObjects and was recently updated for Lion.

Thanks, John. I am aware of that fact. However, this does in no way send a signal to me that their work on WebObjects will ever be shared with the world. It might as well just be that the current version is the last one and any future required bug fixes will have to be done by patching somehow by the community. To me, it's difficult to argue with a boss why I want to put our future applications on a software that has no *official* support by the developper. That does not say anything negative about the community using it.

WebHelpDesk is a commercial piece of software written in WebObjects, that company makes their entire living from it. As I mentioned it has been upgraded to work with Lion. While not a definitive answer if that company still manages to rely on it for their living it might mean WebObjects does still have some support for customers.
