Keyboard not responsive after waking up

I have a Dynex wired keyboard. Whenever my iMac goes to sleep, upon waking, the keyboard is unresponsive. The keyboard resumes normal operation after I unplug the USB then plug it back in. I am running 10.5.8 (10.6 is on the way via postal)

Any ideas?

I'm on latest Yosemite 10.10 and this is still an issue. If I wake the computer with my mouse then I can use my keyboard to type...but if I wake with my keyboard then I have to unplug and plug back in for it to work.
