Lion freezes when screen saver kicks in

I have two machines running Lion right now - a 3+ year old MacBook Pro and a 2+ year old iMac.

The MacBook seems to run fine -- it was a clean install of Lion. The iMac was an upgrade and have noticed on two occasions that the thing has frozen up when the screen saver has kicked in. Nothing can be done other than a power cycle to get the machine back up and running.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks.

Just bought a new 27" iMac and transferred my account from previous(2005) iMac. Everything seemed to be working fine except when the computer went to sleep. When I returned to the machine and clicked the mouse or touched the keypad to wake it up, the screensaver was frozen on the display. Oddly enough, when I moved the mouse, it started erasing the frozen screen shot, revealing the log in screen hidden below it. Every time I went to login, I would have to erase enough of the frozen screensaver to view the text box on the log in screen, and then log in. This happened repeatedly even after playing around with the screen/energy saver settings. I tried your solution, de-selecting auto logout, and the problem has so far not recurred. Thanks for posting.

Update: I had replaced HDD, MB and graphic card (thanks to Applecare ).

As I was told the freezing could be the problem with graphic card. However I still have freezes (I don't have screensaver). In console I see the message: kernel **Device in slot: SLOT--1**. 10 minutes before Time machine finished backup on my WD My Book Studio. I will try to disconnect the USB drive and see if this is causing the freezes.
